Who killed sport compact racing?

I'm really 2slow
Re: Who killed sport compact racing?
Big setups killed it...LOL. No way I can go 8's unless I spend like 30k. Everyone wants to have the fastest car out there. In order to do that you need to spend a lot of money. And that's money I don't have.

pro class is dead but the grassroots will continue to be there..... and for me thats just fine
i never minded seeing a bunch of modded streetcars go at it, i preferred it.

Same here. I love watching the street classes race because to me I can say to myself "wow, this is attainable". Pro cars are cool, don't get me wrong, but personally I'd rather watch a class I can strive to someday compete in.

Re: Who killed sport compact racing?
I LOVE pro cars for the limits they push and the effort they put in but as the budgets got bigger the spectator kinda lost motivation knowing their street car would never be that fast or how unpractical a "race" setup would be on the street.
I think street classes help keep things somewhat attainable --- even if they came up with motor specific classes to cut costs for some little guys.
We just need to promote the growth of the industry at the entry level --- once people have a good time racing --- customers for life. I think the IDRC is trying really hard which is nice to see.

Re: Who killed sport compact racing?
lol. grassroot cars that soo will be able to drive on the streets is killing it all. A few years from now no one will want to go the a race and see a car run 8's and hear the person sitting next to them say. "thats cool but I have a dail driver that run almost as fast. The fun and thrill will be gone. I love the see fast cars but with the wrong rules street cars are faster than most hot rod cars.

Having a "Mullet" haircut is dead but just because you rock it doesn't mean it's not dead.
The OP is right, IDR is dead if you compare it to the days at it's PEAK. You can deny it all you want, just like the rednecks rocking mullets denying that the 80's is long gone.
Sorry guys it is what it is...but this opens the doors for all privateer grass root racers. It can land them small sponsorships, just like the top guys back in the days getting paid peanuts to race. It wasn't much but it sure made racing fun.
GM tried their best to help believe it or not. They however miss the point though. Just by having the fastest cars doesn't make you sell cars. Most or all of their sports compact cars were crap or crappy looking. It just didn't appeal, maybe people were bias to Jap cars but in the end if you build a nice car people will buy it but they didn't. So then they back out because it started to fade and they weren't really profitting from it. Good business decision by them IMO.
People keep on asking why all the OG racing quit? Why don't they come back to race? Well racing is not free that's the answer. They are getting older, have families and mouths to feed. When you spend so much to race a season/series, and not profit? Then there's no benefit because they don't have the time to do a 9-5 job. A lot of you guys say you are still racing but you guys don't spend even close to what the pro racers spend in a season.
Oh....mad tyte difting Yo also killed it. Hate it or not, can't deny how pack the stands are compared to drag racing.

I want to hear what Gardella had to say. That sounded interesting.
The racing this year has been good. No corporate involvement, no big series...just people doing it for fun.
