Default Whats everyones opinion on everyone followin safety rules?

Just curious and not here to start a **** storm but recently I got the boot from local track for not having a 5 point harness on an 11.30 pass. Wasn't that upset except for the fact that I had gone faster the week prior without as much of a warnin and have friends in v8s going 10s with no cages. So add to that the fact that I have seen cars at events going as low as high 9s without safety equipment it got me to thinking, why should I have to follow the rules?

Do you feel that safety equipment should be more heavily enforced or is it more of an issue of "well its their life if they wreck" type deal? Do you feel its worthy of bringing up to track officials when somone is running times well beyond the required mark of certain safety devices or is it "bad sportsmanship" to snitch?

I see a lot of people lately complaining that certain cars are breaking records at test and tunes where weight isn't checked, blah blah blah...well couldn't the same argument be made for those running cars without the extra weight of something like a roll cage? Again curious and not trying to start any drama or nothing like that

Haha i'll just leave it at that. Anyways this isn't aimed at any one paticular event, track or anything. Hell I ran mid 11s without my helmet on at an event in June because everyone else was doing it haha. Just tryin to get others opinions on this subject that is all. FWIW there are some safety rules I am not a fan of such as a window net benig required on cars going 11.49 or 135mph

It's the luck of the draw we've been 10.50's no cage no problems we did have a helmet an race jacket so we do what we can to be safe. something is better then nothing an defenitly never tell on sumone thats the easiest way to get a mouth full of teeth lol...Me personally i mind my own business and dont care what other racers are doing

why would weight be checked at a test and tune? its not an event where there is a minimum weight.

weight shouldnt be checked at a test and tune, but records should be set at actual events to ensure they are legit

There are no weight limits at ifo events. Too many tracks we go to do not have scales. Not going to put in rules we can't enforce.

If you have a cage and do not wear a helmet or 5 point you are truly stupid.

i think you should be like the nhra, and do it at an event and back it up before it can be considered a record

the all motor 9 second car states they are waiting for the right track conditions again to back up there 9 second pass, but seems to be alot of people not thinkign t was legit.

Im not even talking about weight! I made that comment in reference to people bitching about cars running certain times without being weighed saying that its not fair, well how is it fair that a car wins classes and events going speeds where safety items are required without having safety equipment yet others are being forced to use it? This really goes to a local track where I run weekly and got kicked out for not having a 5 point yet friends race there going 10s with not as much as a roll cage and its over looked. Not trying to point the finger at any 1 paticular racer, event, ect.. Just wondering if others felt that whats fair for one, needs to be fair for all. You would see racers bitching if car x weighing in at 2300lbs was winning events, but the rules stated they need to be at 2400lb minimum. The same principle applies here, if its in the rule book it should be followed.

As for your comment Cliff I think I will touch on it. You stated that there wouldn't be enough cars to fill a class? First I disagree with that as I feel people would build their car to fit in the rules, doesn't that happen now with SFWD and other classes? Also to those that don't want to deal with the rules, well then tough **** for them, build the car to fit the rules or don't race, its as plain as that. I am going to MIR next weekend and was wanting to run a heads up class, however I don't have a diaper yet so I know I can't. I am ok with their rules about heads up classes requiring them, yet you don't see me bitching nor wanting the rules bent just so my car can fit within those classes.

Also to the guy that said its a good way to lose teeth, I am sure you would be pissed if you lost to a car that wasn't legal. Also is someone really wanted to swing on me for being busted out about not being within the rules they better be wearing safety equipment

I was at an event once where the tech guy gave me alot of **** for having a harness that was expired by a month. At the same event, in my class there was a civic hatchback running low 10's without a cage.

Rules should be more uniformly enforced...and tech inspectors should KNOW the actual rules they are in charge of enforcing.

When a tech inspector pulls out a cheat sheet as he is teching your car, that's laughable.

Rules should be the same everywhere so there are no questions or surprises...

Private track rentals should be the only exception to this IMHO

^^ How upset were you? Cliff you'd be suprised just how much I now know about the safety tech required. I had a nice long talk with the boys up in the booth that night I got the boot. Hell I didnt know a window net was technically required until that night haha. Nor did I know that a license was required at 135mph, I had always thought it was 150mph. Before I even began racing the tech guy gave me **** about my LEGAL kill switch, stating it was illegal. They make this nifty little thing called th NHRA Rulebook haha, within it they list these "rules" of required safety equipent. It even lets you know what MPH and or ET certain things are required.

You want to know what the guys in the box told me, and this is no bullshit. "We are still trying to train our tech guys on how to inspect an import"....what?!! You tech them no differetly then you do a Mustang, Camaro, Ford Escort. I absolutely hated having to cage my car, but I knew I wouldnt be able to go fast without one. Had I been aware of the harness rule at the time it would've been in the car. I put one in it the following week without blinking an eye. I want to go fast while following the rules and yes safety tech is a set of rules if they weren't they wouldnt put them in the rule book yearly lol.

safety tech is going to vary from track to track. Pacific Raceways is pretty strict and has turned people away because they had plastic push/pull style battery cut-off switches. Then there are tracks where you dont have to be 25.5 to go .30's lol.

If you were asking me, I was pissed. I didn't say anything because my harness was out of date..but I still thought it was complete bs for a car to be competing in an event (and to win a class) running those times, at those trap speeds without a cage.

Yeah I was asking you and thats exactly how I feel about it! Are some tracks more laid back, absolutely as I mentioned I was running mid 11s with no helmet simply because everyone else was doing it (1 pass).

What bothers me about it, is that it is pretty much cheating in my eyes. For example if I didn't have to spend $4k on safety equipment maybe my car would have had $4k in better parts and would have gone faster.

Safety rules are black and white. Pick up an NHRA rulebook. Really no excuse to not do it.

Class rules are the only grey areas as they constantly change.

If your car isn't legal to meet the safety requirements required for your ET and MPH, expect to not be able to race at some NHRA tracks. That just the reality of things.

Most take the safety requirements pretty seriously as rules were added as people were either seriously injured or killed.

My 2 cents.

I just hate when people don't use Snell SA helmets. They would rather use bike helmets.
