Default What do people like and dislike about the import events?

I would like to see what people like and dislike about the events. What could be done at the events to make it a better experience? What would you like to see more of? Also what are some of the things you expect to see and do at an event, and what would you not change?

I know most people in the forum run heads up classes but I would also like to hear from the little guys like us bracket racers, who really fill the events.

I know the experience varies from track to track so I would like to hear the good and bad.

What I gather from always reading the drag forum is people would like bigger payouts, less oil downs, more uniform rules, and no rain. I am looking for input like that but more importantly the events themselves.

It seems like the street wars (Import VS Domestic) draws big crowds, would people like to see Japan VS European or something a long those lines?

I am bored at work and was just thinking. Thought this would make for some good discussion.

I would like to see more education programs/seminars at the events as well as more complete information available to all the casual racers for the weekend. The people who travel, obviously know what the heck is going on, but the locals may or may not be aware of how to even race in competition.

I dislike people who take pictures of your car, but it seems like they are taking more pictures of your license plate so that they can find you later and jack the car.

I agree with you on that. Best thing you can do is take your plate off before you get there and cover you VIN number that is what I do. The past few events at E-town people have asked if they could take pics before just going and taking the pics.

From the events I've been to, I think they could be better with just a good announcer.

Of course they have announcers, but the personality, knowledge, and character can make the event that much more entertaining IMO. Sometimes you hear them and you can tell they really think their job is to "read the numbers" after the run.

One that comes to mind is an announcer at California Speedways street legal nights. It's hard to pinpoint it, but he goes further than "reading the numbers" and it is more fun to be there.

A good idea would be to have a featured racer and or race car at races. Set up some sort of podium and area for the car and fans and do a live questions and answers about how the season is going, stuff thats going on with their team and the car. Also LCD screens everywere with action on the track as well as behind the scenes. More exposure the better for racers and sponsers. More stuff for younger kids so the mommys and todlers have something to do while daddy is out doing his thing. More advertising to people OUTSIDE the industry to get people that arent educated about the sport to the track. And once there there educate them about our sports history and now! Better racing couldnt hurt either!

I would love to see a seminar or two about racing, safety, etc. Hell, I would even attend. One of the thing that bothers me is trying to hear staging lane calls over the music from the booty shaking contest. I must say that NOPI has one of the best announcers in Bobby, he really tries to keep everyone informed on what is going on. I also dont like the holding of rounds wating on cars.

advertising for some of these events is just pathetic. i live 15-20 min from MIR and nobody knows about any of the races untill after they happen (im talking about guys that are into cars...but dont race competivly) people say they dont like the car shows....im not a huge fan either but they get people there and they dont bother the racers any. there really needs to be a muffler rule on rotaries. and 2 stepping in the pits.....every race i manage to get pitted next to somebody who bounces off the 2 step 30 times between pass's.....no attempts at changing anything...just making ungodly amounts of noise.

better food!! after eating track food i can't concentrate on driving, i have to worry about if im going to dump all over myself going down the track.

it would be cool if there was "stuff" going on like pre set up or whatever in between days at a 2 day event. nopi did some stuff like that this year and it was a lot of fun.

turn off the go-go jams when making staging lane calls. we are at the RACE track....so when its time to RACE i want to be able to hear whats going on!

Advertising is a big problem I think. The marketing of these events is horrible.

I really wish NHRA and Nopi would run the same rules across the board. Everyone would benefit from that.

I agree alot on the noise during round calls; it is hard to hear in the pro pits and in the sportsman area, there is not always speakers. You can listen to a radio for the track P.A., but that does not always work and not the whole track is in range in some cases.

Advertising is a big issue i think... We need to get more people in the stands and in the staging lanes...

Announcements that can not be heared is also a problem, i'm cool with booty shakin but when they make announcements, they should lower the volume on the music and make the announcement, then raise the volume back up...

Track food, well, over the years have grown to depend on the infamous grey with pink center hot dogs... i stay away from all other track food since we usually bring a BBQ to events, and i dont want to get sick...

Mike...

I'd like to see ONE major series with set classes so that there are more cars at each event. I like NHRA Sport Compact and i like NDRA, if the cars combined from each it would REALLY be something to attend. I mean im all for smaller time local events but the "big show" would be much better if all of top imports/compacts raced with one racing body.

That my friend is what will help this industry to grow!!! Let NOPI handle the media of the NHRA events!!!

There needs to be at least 3 races during the season that are big dog, heavy hitter races. What I mean is, one race in the east, one in the west, and one in Texas. I'm talking BIG payouts. Like $10-15k for the winners of Pro RWD, $10-15k for Outlaw/Modified, $8-10k for Hot Rod/P4C, all the way down the line. Remember the World Import Challenge? That was a good idea! I remember Ed Bergenholtz won it. These events need to be ***** to the wall, no holds barred, baddest of the bad race teams in each of the classes. I can promise you that with SERIOUS payouts, there would be full fields and big crowds. I can't help but to keep bringing this up, but the Pan American Nationals have a $10,000 payout, and have no less than 40 cars trying to make the field. They have one here and one in Puerto Rico. At Atco it is literally standing room only at these events. I understand it takes sponsors, and promoters, and this, and that..........but has anyone ever thought to talk to Joe Sway and Bob Van Sciver to find out how they attract such huge crowds at these events? I can tell you one thing.........they PAY the Puerto Rican cars to show up, just like with thrill shows where they have funny cars, monster trucks, Pro Mods all in the same night. There's my thought. Love it or hate it.

Both the NOPI and IDRC announcers are great. Anything to make it more personal.
What I dislike is the long clean-up times. Usually there is not enough staff to do it quickly.

Speaking from a west coast perspective, I would like to see more variety of cars at the races...like the old days. Especially since there is almost no Nisaan, VW, Toyota, newer Honda...etc at the races....and I mean the sentra...golf....celicas.
Matter of fact....it would be nice to see some newer model honda's or acuras go at it. I cant remember the last time I saw newer RSX or Civic run out here.
Guess Cali's strict emissions have people giving up modding their cars.

As much as we dont like that being done, you gotta give them credit for being there. And for some, they are just beginners and not as knowledgeable as most of us so be patient with them. They'll move to the next level and become more serious racers than now. When you think about it, we all started from the bottom.

-hearing someone 2 stepping a million times in pits sucks.
-idiots not going the speed limit in the pits pisses me off and is dangerous.
-good announcers makes a big differences at an event, they set the tone.
-big payouts will come, but would help if it came sooner.
-activities for wives and kids while daddy is tinkering with the car is nice.
-faster clean ups by way of better eqiupment. Sears Point(infineon) can clean any spill FAST.
Thats all for now. Still thinking
