Anyone run Q16? Pros/ cons of it? I'm running C16 now and had heard since Q16 is oxygenated it can help provide a little more power... just wondering what everyones thoughts where on this..

i have never used it but have dynoed a couple engines that were running it on the engine dyno...we took the heads off to check the roller rockers and wow, it looked like it had been around the block. not dirty, but just cruddy, hard to explain.

i wont comment on the power and such since these are all different application motors.

You can get away with murder on Q16.. Its extremely stable.. Definatly worth the switch in my opinion..

I know the Q16 is slightly more expensive per gallon around here than C16 last time I heard VP prices. Dont know if they droped the price since then (couple months ago) since I dont run it.

haha. i dont have pictures. the valve train just looked like it had a powdery white crap all over as well as the block, nothing bad, not complaining at all, the stuff made some crazy power compared to c16. that why i always hesitate posting stuff that we find on the engine dyno...its all stuff that does not pertain to us. im talking about efi/blowthru carb v-8 dinosaur stuff whether the motor be for a boat, race car, muscle car, whatever...v8 stuff. ok im done sharing my extinct info, haha

did the engine happen to sit for a bit before you removed the heads ? did you find anything in the carb or manifold runners ? or was it pretty much after it cooled down ?

when you say "the valvetrain as well as the block" does that mean the faces of the valves, and the tops of the pistons? or someplace else ?

yeah we let the engine cool off. its not just one engine, its all the engines that we have ran q16. mostly the carb engines that get it. nothing in the carb or manifold. mostly i mean the valve train like valve springs, roller rockers...when we pop off the valve cover, but we have seen it on the valves as well. im not saying its any sort of damage, must just be some sort of thing that has to do with the oxygenated...i really dont know.

i am in no way bad mouthing the fuel. on a carb motor they seem to like the af ratio about .3 lower than what they were with c16. usually we are just running the engine dyno and watching the af...they engine owner is the one doing the teardown checks and jet changing, etc.

I gave it a shot after our fuel supplier was all pumped about it. It was supposed to run cooler, make more power and cost the same as the C16 so we figured, "what the hell.". We didn't test on the dyno, but adjusted the fuel metering and made a few passes with no significant improvements in et's, mph or 60' on the track. Keep it away from your eyes as you will cry like a baby from the fumes. I kinda think they blended C16 and nitro-methane to make Q16.

I look at it as a micro adjustment but I'm still working on the macro adjustments on the car so we don't have much to gain from it. I think that if you have a car that's tweeked to the smallest detail and you need that "one thing" to cross a threshhold, then it's worth doing some testing. If you just throw a turbo kit on a car, you won't see much gain over C16.

I think it would be worth a look for 700+ hp turbo and big hp all-motor cars.

well i have a 12:1 ls/vtec that was tuned on 93 octane, but they had to retard the timing a bit...im wanting to take it to the track with slicks, and advance the timing, but in order to do this i know i need some race fuel...im wanting to use Q16 but it requires more fuel since its oxygenated...can i just increase the fuel pressure a bit or will it be ok to run it without adjusting the pressure or without a retune?

Most of us made the switch and have been pretty happy with it. Also, up here, it's priced the same as C16.

Every motor that I have run Q16 has burned very clean. Never experienced any crudiness in any part of the motor. Not discrediting anyone, just offering another point of view.

Its very stable, you can throw a lot of everything at it and it just takes it

Same price as C16 here. I just bought 25 gallons of Q16 for my car, although I won't be able to compare to C16 since I am going from 93 to Q.
