Default Sway bars removed

I tried searching and found various opinions on this topic. My car is a 2004 EP3 and never sees street driving, its strictly a track car. I have been working on removing some excess weight, and was wondering if removing the front and rear sway bars will hurt anything. I understand that they are primarily for body roll, but will the front help reduce wheel hop? Thanks for the help.

I don't have them anymore and I know some 8 second cars that removed and don't run theirs anymore.

Pull it off.

Think they're even necessary for a car who sees the street?

every RWD IRS drag car in the world runs the stiffest sway bar that they can find to keep the wheels from doing their own thing. It keeps them flat to the chassis. I know a lateral drivetrain acts different on the chassis as a longitudinal, but it seems to me like a stiff front sway bar would only help and not hurt. You can even ghetto shim them to load the tires evenly if you have no other way.

I gather that its fine, however I have a front bar... will it help removing it?

I got less wheel hop on drag radials from removing the front sway bar. Don't feel like it makes the car any more unstable on the street.

It will reduce a good amount of weight.

I feel like everybody ignored my post. LOL. Here's a corvette drag sway bar as an example: http://www.monstermotorsportsinc.com...pfadtc6dragbar

If I were him, I'd be trying to figure out how to hang lead off of it.

When I was doing the eg subframe swap I weighed everything from my EK. Overall I lost 40 pounds switching from the power steering rack and subframe to the manual EG setup. The sway bar was 8 pounds.

I wonder how much difference it would be if you already had a manual rack ek

I have no clue, I am very satisfied with doing that swap just for the fact that there is way less junk now. The manual EG subframe and rack are a lot easier to work with especially if you need to swap out a bad rack. The EK there is a lot of extra medal wrapped around the rack making it very hard to reach.

My car is basically just a drag car but I take it for the occasional drive around the neighborhood to keep the Ignite flowing through the injectors. So I trust the guys who told me I don't need my sway bar anymore.

In a platform where everyone with power has trouble hooking up in 1st I seriously doubt dropping weight off the front will show positive results.

Getting rid of a sway bar is ditching un-sprung weight. This should not affect traction from a weight standpoint as sprung weight is what benefits traction.

For me it wasn't about weight reduction, I got rid of my EK subframe and rack so I would be able to use Kingpin Compliance bushings. It just so happens that the EG stuff happened to weigh less and people told me that there was no need to run a sway bar anymore.

For me I like easy access to parts and to reduce clutter. Leaving the sway bar off my car after the fact was just more clutter reduction, just like now being able to ditch my traction bar setup because I am using Kingpin Compliance bushings.

This is true but if he was to remove 40 pounds from behind the ft wheels and put that 40 pound weight farther in ft of the wheels then it would be more beneficial with helping traction no?

I would be looking in other areas to reduce weight. Go to the track and make a pass with it on and off and you have the answer.

Hardly. 99% of Hondas are inconsistent as hell.

I appreciate the help. I pulled them off, but will take them to the track with me. If I see that my times suffer, then I will throw them back on and try it again.

I'm going to do the opposite. I'm gonna run the stiffest and heaviest damn front sway bar I can find.

I hate drag suspension set-ups because other than drag racing they suck to drive. My Mustang has 250#springs in front, 300# springs in rear, coilovers, torque arm, huge sway bars and still 60ft's a 1.53 but can carve corners with the best of them.

My CRX has Skunk2 Pro-s coilovers, ETD traction bar, stock front Si sway bar, rear ASR sway bar, Skunk2 LCA's and basicly dead hooks a 1.60's on 23" slicks. I used to think I had traction issue till I went to a well prepped track.
