The Story "Tag Crashes RWD Civic at CSCS"
SO everyone by now must have heard about that crash up in Grand Bend on Sunday July 17. It was ******* crazy!!! The car got completely totaled on the final race. It was Mel from Tag Racecraft v.s. Paul from Splitfire. Both of them destined to meet up in the finals from the very beginning of the event. It was the race that alot of people were anticipating all day, to finally get the answer to the question... "Will Mel, the underdog of the import scene be the first to finally beat Paul, the king of all imports?" Rumours were spreading around the track that Paul was having issues with his car, and this got everyone thinking that Mel might have a standing chance. The light went green and Mel hit the pedal before Paul, giving him the lead. This was too unreal, even Mel himself couldn't believe it... He jumped Paul at the start, but as Mel saw him in the corner of his eye, he knew he had to somehow take him... So instead of clutching the car, he decided to power shift on the G-Force transmission (which was designed for power shifting). But the drastic change in shift sent the car out of control and took Mel into the right wall at over 100 mph wrecking his front right quater panel fender, but as he tried to correct it, it threw the car across the track spinning 180* into the left wall wrecking the rear right quater panel. He hit the wall with soo much force it moved that peice of the wall out. The weird thing is, he came out of it bowing to the crowd... Just shaking up and a little disappointed, but hardly a scratch... F*ing big damage, i dunno if they'll make it in time for the next event... But Mel is currently in the lead with points.

the wheel base isn't that short. if i'm not mistaken the wheel base is 103 inches i think.

well have u noticed once alot of the sportcompacts that switched to rear-wheel drive began to crash?????? ie Brent Rau and i think Sean Glazer amongst some others?... it even happens on bigger cars .. when u get some much power the rear tires want to push the fronts sometimes in worse cases trying to go around the front... to counteract that they modify them... case in point stephs rear wheel drive car, as well as the Street Glow Solaras so on and so forth...
ive seen tons of "short" rwd cars, like old Mazda's do the same thing couple years back at LACR I saw one hook and go right into the wall w/ in the first 60'

i don't know if you've noticed, but the wheel base on those cars have been extended to 113 inches(atleast) which doesn't make it a short wheel base car anymore. with the exception of Brents car which is only extened about a few inches, and Brents crash was the result of him not pulling the parachute. if yo ulook inside his car there is a little reminder that says....."PULL THE SHOOT DUMB ***" so i don't think it as anything to do with a short wheel base.
Plus look at the puerto rican cars.... there wheel base on some of those cars are 86 inches and they run 7.50's or fasterasll day long going straight as an arrow.
It all comes down to how properly built the car is.

bro dont get me wrong, i never said they "cant" go straight... but its just fact rear wheel drive cars will try to "spin" out... when ur rear wheels are doing all the pushing .. thats exactly what they do... how many front wheel drive cars do you see running into walls?..not very many.. rear wheel drive???... quite a bit more....

Re: (h22 civic)
Ok, I know alot of people are disappointed that the car was crashed, but I've got some good news..."i just saved money on my car insurence by switching to Geico..." ok, just kidding, the real good news is that the car is being rebuilt as we speak, the parts are in and the car should be ready by next the next event... The bad news is...hummm... there is no bad news.... To answer alot of the questions... Mel is both the owner and driver of the car, he's also to designer and tuner. His brother Nap is the chassis builder and chief mechanic. Everything you see and hear about the car is done by these two individuals. These guys are pure budget racers to the very end. They only have a few sponcers and some good friends backing them up. The crazy thing is that if these guys can make a fast RWD Honda Civic, who knows what they can do for your car... They have the rep for making fast cars and tuning them to winning success. Plus they would do it for an afforable price... Forget those expensive tuners that charge you $600.00 for a simple tune, these guys will do it for less and with better quality. But don't take my word for it...

I thought the guy getting out of the car and bowing was kind of a juvenile thing to do. Showed no respect for his car like it was a joke.

Re: (earl)
Mel's crash was really the first real crash we'd had at a Sport Compact Event in Canada EVER..... I thought his bow was rather appropriate for the situation and it showed his appreciation to those who waited around to watch the anticipated showdown, yet were witness to disasterous outcome in the final race of the day...
His making light of situation like that as in no way disrespectful. It made more sense than dropping to his knees and crying like a baby. Or kicking his car like it did something wrong.

I don't know, maybe in Canada people are proud of crashing their car.
The real question is "would be have bowed if he had crashed into his competitor" also?

I doubt he was proud. In turn, to make best of an already dreary situation and because he was 100% ok, he felt that he would delight the crowd by being positive and accepting his mistake in the light hearted, humurous nature that is Mel.
He did NOT crash into his competitor so therefore there is no point in questioning his actions. That did not occur. Your "real" question is irrelevant.

To each is own, but I sure as hell would have acted different if it was my race car that I wrecked. Probably because I know that I wouldn't have the money to be able to fix it. I would have been the guy on my knees crying looking at what took so long to build, and so much money, and hard work, in a pile of scrap
