Public Announcement: James @ BMC
I (James Goertz) of BMC will be getting out of the car game. All flanges, collectors, and other cnc projects will continue but the fabrication of BMC will be discontinued (unless I can find someone worthy of picking up where I leave off)
I am chasing after something I have wanted to do since I was a young kid, I have joined the US Army and will be shipping out Jan 14, 2013.
I will continue to take a handful of orders between now and the beginning of December, so anyone still wanting to get in on that custom intake or exhaust manifold let me know and I'll work you a very special deal.

As a US Army Sgt. I can say congraulations on your decisions. Good luck with it. Take the chance on going to as many schools you can if given the chance. I am UH-60 blackhawk crew chief and i love aviation and have lots of places and missions to do with it.

Thanks
I am 11x mos and am pushing for Special Forces. I will be taking full advantage of the free college while in and plan on being in for quite some time. I'd like to save my GI Bill for my children in the future.
I have alot of personal fears I'm looking to overcome in the Army.
Heights, I figured this can be cured by going Airborne then later Halo
Leadership, I'll be pushing for drill sergeant position as soon as the opportunity arises.
Personal challenge, Ranger and SF are some bad hombres so I want to get both tabs

Sucks to see you go James but Im sure its for the best and gotta do what you want and whats best. Love the custom SR20VE BMC Race manifold you made for me. Thank you for taking on the project and I can tell you, it makes some serious power.
Thanks again, I guess it will be a one of a kind piece in the SR world.
Good luck on the endeavor and be safe.

The funny thing is I never really wanted to do the car thing as a business, it was my hobby and fun time...
I started welding and fabbing for myself because I couldn't afford to buy the parts that were on the market, then one thing led to another and everyone was ordering and I was stuck doing it then.
If all goes as I'd like it too I'll retire somewhere along the lines of 2033 and will be able to do what I really want then.
Build stuff for myself, and when I'm bored with it sell it and build a new one. I'd love to build one off custom hotrods for myself and have nobody hanging over me telling me to do this/do that or all the drama that gets involved with large custom builds...

Congrats bro, my hats off to you. From personal experience in your military career take what happens like a grain of salt. There's gonna be haters, cocky muthafucka's, dude's who are younger than u but will out rank you. If you wanna go the front line route which is what i did. You will have fun trust me, dont go thru sf selection straight from basic... Wait till you get to your Unit and have played the Reg Army game for like a yr or 2. Then fill out your SF packet , or Ranger packet. But anyway Sir, goodluck with everything and i hope you get to wear 1 or both of those tabs..

You don't need to be a super huge dude to make it through ranger school, the most important thing is will. You can push your body well beyond what you think it is capable of. You just have to have the will not to quit, which can't really be taught. That said, make sure you are in the best shape of your life when you go and it will be easier by an order of magnitude.
These should be your goals before you go to basic:
12 mile ruck with 50 pounds under 3 hours
5 mile run in under 38 minutes
60 correct form chest-to-ground pushups (youtube it) in 2 minutes
70 correct form sit ups (youtube it) in 2 minutes
12 dead hang pullups (youtube)
If you can do that before basic and have the right attitude, you will make it to ranger bat barring injury no problem. Every time you have to do one of those events in the pipeline, challenge yourself to do a new personal best, not just a pass.
To be honest, SF isn't everything you think it is. When you first get to SF you will be tier 3, you will be doing JSETs (working with and training foreign militaries) and rotations to afghanistan in which you will be doing VSO (village stability operations).
Rangers are tier 2 which basically means you get to fly in on a helo, **** **** up then fly home. If all you want to do is direct action missions then ranger bat is where you want to be.
The reason I say go to a ranger bat before SF is because after all the skills you pick up there will help you immensely in the SF qualification course. In the Q course you go through SERE C at Bragg (which you can't/don't need to prepare for, just don't quit and follow all the rules), language school (study, study, study), SUT (small unit tactics, your background as expert infantry in ranger bat will make this easy), your 18 series MOS training, and finally robin sage which is a culmination exercise.
The number one reason people get kicked out of the Q course is a bad attitude, it doesn't matter if your instructors are right or wrong, don't argue with them. The second reason is not passing your gates, make sure you stay in great shape. The hardest parts of that is after SERE and during language school. Study your *** off for language, but live in the gym.
General army ****:
-Make copies of any and all paperwork, keep a hard copy and a digital copy if possible.
-Do what you are told, don't bitch and complain because it isn't fair, just ******* do it and you will be fine.
-If you are tasked to do something that is more complex than cutting the grass, write down exactly what you are supposed to do
-Ask questions if you are not 100% on what you are supposed to do.
-Always remember who you are talking to, a lot of the SF candidates lose their military bearing as soon as they pass selection and get in trouble for disrespect. You aren't a cool guy yet.
-Even if you are a cool guy remember you are an ambassador for your tab. If you are a dick to some private because you have a short/long tab and some rank you ruined the tab in the eyes of that private.
If you have any specific questions you can PM me.

GL man, I have NO DOUBT you'll do everything you intend on doing, just based on what I know about you already.
I plan on putting my manifold to use sometime in the near future. It's on the car, but I need to get all the piping made and some other crap before she'll run.
Your dedication to fitness inspired me to train and work harder than I ever have before. I'm starting a rather extreme (for me) cutting diet this week, for four weeks. Seeing how lean you got pre-contest made me want to do it, while albeit I'm not going nearly as extreme. I'm basically trying to get ripped before I go to Vegas Oct 10th lol. I'm pretty lean now, but you know losing the last couple is the hardest part.
Again, I think you have all the tools you need to be successful in any elite branch of the military.... Good luck and be careful.

Thanks man
Most people don't know that other side of me, your one of the few
Fitness is one of my favorite things, that's why I won't be able to stand being in just a plain-jane outfit, I have to strive for the next higher level. In general that's how I am with all aspects of my life. That's why I couldn't keep happy with one single design on an intake and was always pushing for more performance with new designs.
Right now the cardio part is the kicker for me on the pt test, being that I have never in my life really had to run I'd say I've come pretty far in the last 2 weeks of run training.
Started at 1 mile run in about 10 mins and am down to 7mins flat now, Tuesday I'll be pushing for a 6:30mile. I'm quite certain that I'll be maxing (or really close to*) the pt test before I ever even leave for basic.

Re: Public Announcement: James @ BMC
James,
My brother in law just joined a few months ago and he is an 11x as well. He had a great time in basic and AIT. He went to FT. Benning.
I joined in 2001 a few weeks before 9-11. The service had changed my life in many aspects, most of them for the better. Deployments are tough, but there is no way around it.
I went through 11b school then changed MOS's to 15f (helicopter electrician). I have 10 years of service under my belt and I just recently decided to get out. It became a love hate thing for me, hence my decision to end my career. Anyway, if you can, I'd highly recommend jump school or even air assault. I had a blast in AA school and it was one of the coolest training sessions I have ever done aside from the helicopter dunk tank.
Best of luck, thanks for serving, stay safe, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
