PPG recommending MOTUL 75-140 for S2000 dogbox, anybody ever use it?
Hey guys, I'm having a used PPG Box put in my car and the 2nd gear dogs were pretty beat up. I was able to get two new dog rings for 1&2 and 3&4 but the 2nd gear itself is a made to order piece so I'll have to wait a few months. Anyway, I am having Tom over at NRG re cut the dogs for now. In emailing back and forth with PPG they recommended maybe just take a tiny bit off the top of the gear but mentioned I should run MOTUL 75-140. I was planning on using redline Shockproof light weight 75-80. I would imagine I would really need to heat up the MOTUL stuff in order for it to be effective, anybody ever use this stuff?, like it, dislike etc........
Here is the 2nd gear dogs

+1 don't run something else, and down the road complain the gears are wearing more than normal..... PPG may have a deal with Motul, but who knows.

I also run the Motul as per their recommendations. I asked about other oils such as shock proof and was told to stay away.

I use the smurf juice.
My question is how you shift this thing, that may be an issue. Im only asking because I have no wear on mine for two years now.
Do you use the clutch or a strain gauge?

I have used the lightweight MTF from redline and also tried the lightweight mixed 50/50 with heavyweight in my PPG. Didn't notice any difference in either case. This year I'm using the Motul per PPG.

FWIW I have over 30 passes and a bunch of 10 second passes with the "weak" stock S2000 box and my 2nd gear is still in one piece so I am hoping I won't have any issues with these. (As long as I shift correctly) I am going to have Evans set up an ignition interrupt so I can do WOT shifting. (Putting in a CC Twin)

Get them cleaned up and it should work just fine for you.
As far as my set up, I still use the clutch to shift, not sure how much the clutchless shifting helps with the time, but for now im not willing to wear out the trans for an extra tenth.

We broke 1st gear in our STI 6 speed. PPG pretty much told us to ef off because we didn't use Motul. They said they only warranty parts with little use if used with Motul oil. Btw, the car had less than 10 hits on the PPG box.

Always loved Motul fluids, but I think the fluid weight should be determined based on the intended usage. In this case, short bursts of high load. 75w140 will likely be fine.
