Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
Here we go, another case of BS with these race events. I have bit my tongue for awhile on these situations but these organizations and their rules just keep getting worse.
The reasons are always the same with "they are doing this to keep competition side by side". The real problem is people who go slower keep on complaining that they can't compete and because they can't compete they want rules changed to make the faster cars slower.
The same thing is happening out here on the west coast with IFO events. Again they have added rules to the FIS class making us use full exhausts on our car. It went from up pipes, to down pipes to full exhausts. The reasoning again is because people keep complaining that they cannot compete with the fast guys. Every event my car gets contested for some reason or another because the guy who came in his crappy 14 second car is mad he has to compete against a 9 second car.
Instead of working harder to make his car go faster or just have fun they complain and complain and as a result rules get changed for the worse.
I'm tired of the rules being changed in favor of the guys who don't work hard, test and try and make their cars go faster. They want everything changed to favor them and their BS.

All motor going from a gasoline class to an alcohol class? Seems odd . . .
I guess my dragster and my all motor car can drink the same fuel now

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
Since the images are dated from almost 2 months ago, did OGS decide to completely cut out FTW?
Having not run the class yet, I am way out of the loop but I'm not sure how going from a $33/gal fuel to a $4/gal fuel that makes more power is a bad thing other than in FTW's position of cutting out a lot of sales.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
A lot of guys are running M5 already, but a lot of guys are running red or black. I would be more pissed for Sfwd guys, Import is stupid expensive and gas and C85 is ethanol....why two different types of fuels when all motor is just methanol? Either way, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense and will only hurt racer attendance.

The racers are not the ones testing the fuel. Evidently it must not be the racers complaining.....

I'm also willing to bet, Cliff doesnt change the rules because people cry. Hes there, watching at 90% of his events and does pay attention to whats going on.
Don't get me wrong, this OGS ruling is the foulest rule i've seen in quite a long time.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
I would imagine it's the same with the AMS class, to define it more as a street car. Full exhaust systems and full interiors, same reason why AMS cars can't have hood exits. If you can make the jam, an exhaust won't hurt much but the weight of it. I had a lot of fun running at IFO, didn't have any bullshit and they never even asked what fuel we were running, just checked to make sure the car had a full exhaust system, interior and was plated and registered.

Most street cars don't run on e98, run 16v battery setups, run PPG gearsets, slicks or Motec. So I am just worried they will start limiting other things down the road.
If they want a real street class they should make one, use stock trans, DOT tires, etc, etc. However it's not that big of a deal, if I gets too crazy I'll just run Friday night drags with no pressure or politics.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
they arent going to ban things that keep cars from breaking like a nice trans as long as its obviously reasonable. Battery setup is also something that is generally transparent to someone watching.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
Lets not look at the class as a whole just whats best for you but, I'm not surprised...
Rules are looked at and changed to help with parity for all competitors. Tech inspection should be cut and dry. All gray areas should be addressed. That will not stop people from trying to exploit them. IMO that what drives this industry.
You can not please everyone but should be looked at to grow the class/sport.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
See that's what makes it a real pain for some of us. I run a MAKK trans brace and a T1 shifter, both items literally block the exhaust tunnel. Now I have to modify the MAKK brace, maybe the shifter, probably notch the subframe just to run an exhaust.

I guess all you can do is build the car to compete in the class you want to run. I would think it would be harder to completely retune and change fuels to run one event than to jimmy up an exhaust for a race, just my thoughts anyway. I am also switching to a fuel cell up front in the street class which there are no rules in place to decline it so if that does happen down the road, I guess I'll have to comply to whatever rules they put going forward. I had more issues with the NHRA track tech than the IFO staff when racing at the IFO event, the NHRA rules are way more complicated than those for the street(sport) class.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
This maybe harsh or just my financial situation, but I don't know what city or racers that run street cars with a 6k or 7k PPG set!! At most you might find some running heat treated gears, but very few that run all of that on a street car. Your car seems to be a race car that runs on the street, which means you should maybe not run FIS and run FIP instead. That may help you deal with the crying and complaining about your car.
Or you can run a 67mm turbo if you run DOT tires, which you can run some real nice 26 inch M&H tires, pretty close to slicks. AWD cars that come with turbo's like EVO's or Subaru's can also utilize nitrous. This is why you already have a record of 8.8 in the FIS class and more and more Hondas and Acuras in mid to low 9's.
A lot more shops are now building FIS class vehicles as well, so requiring a full exhaust is a little road bump for those guys who have the means and fabricators to make it happen. However, changing a rule to run an full exhaust to try and make it more fair for the others is kind of pointless.
So unless there are major rule changes for the FIS class to ensure a more street class feel, creating rules to add an exhaust or add a backseat or whatever will make no difference in my opinion. The best thing they can do is create a new class specifically for street cars like running DOT tires, stock trans etc.
Even then you will have individuals who will take it to the limit and push extremely hard to set records. This is why if you only plan on pushing your car to a set limit index racing should be your class or stick with test and tune.
Again this is coming from a guy with no financial help, no sponsors, no shop or team. I got a second job to support pushing my car to the next level and to try and compete against shop cars. That's what makes racing fun for me, so I get frustrated when rules are changed and modified to help individuals who are not willing to do what they have to do to compete. Again these are just my opinions and how I feel on some of these situations.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
I've never understood why so many people want to race in FIS when their car would be competitive in the FWD class. Seems like he is trying to create more separation between the race cars and the "street cars" which I support. Just my opinion though.

Re: OGS Bans FTW Fuel....
Well that's kind of my point, right now in FIS (Forced Induction Sport) there are currently no rules on gas, ecu or trans setups. As long as you run a 62mm turbo, run full interior and have registration on the car you are good.
