No prep racing traction issue in 2nd
I have been runing my prelude in some no prep drag racing events. Clocks off non timed. I'm using some pimp juice of course. It's a 200shot car on 26x11.5x16 drag radials.bias ply. The car launchs great on the shot even but 2nd gear it's up in smoke. I even let off in 2nd then ease back in to the wot switch and spin. Hit 3rd more spining. This is with almost 7psi of air in the tires......ideas? On the street it seems to leave with spin but get traction in 2nd. On the no prep track it's the oppisite.
My idea is its leaving hard on the track with the pimp juice and is actually loading rear up and when shift it's unloading and not hooking enough to set the rear back up....myonly idea is stiffen up the rear?

Re: No prep racing
I have tried launching all motor and it bogs with the 26in slicks. Then still spins bad the 2nd the 200shot comes on.
The car is on oem s200 rims with out beadlocks on the slicks.

Also forget to add the car is very light. Around 2100lbs with me in the car. I have kicked around the idea of adding weight in the front as well..
Also have kicked around the idea of 28x10x16 slicks. But I somewhat struggled to fit the 26's not sure 28's will fit.

What about staging your spray, i.e. 100-125 shot off the line and 2nd, then another 100 shot added in once you are in 3rd, or higher end of 2nd?
Also, how much can you heat the tires, and does it help?

Re: No prep racing
I could try that yes but I'd rather not do staged for cost reasons and the fact that on the street it hooks the 200shot. I'm racing heads up against rwd big power cars so I'm out classed for sure I need the 200shot hooking in 2nd. It hooks 1st what is going on in 2nd gear it leaves great on the shot.

Re: No prep racing
Yes I may have to spend some more on the car. I really don't want to cause I'm also building a grudge no prep s2000 small tire car. But I have kicked around the idea of keeping both the cars. I'm gonna try stiffing it up in the rear and adding weight for the next event.

Re: No prep racing
Even though it's a no prep race, the track is still pretty sticky at the starting line compared to everything past the 60'-330' markers. That does play into it as well. I would say run it on a well prepped track and see how it does.

Re: No prep racing
That's exctally what I'm thinking about trying. I still cant figure out how it's hooking on the street but not at the no prep track. I don't see how it's more slippery there Than the street.

try and place the weight in a area that doesn't block the airflow to the radiator. I planned to make one removable bar that attaches to the traction bar filled with melted lead from old batteries, not too bulky and not visible with OEM bumper on.
those too bars in your can probably fit 10 melted batteries.

Re: No prep racing
Well the weight helped alot. I ended up taking the straps off cause I seen some fraying. I'm gonna make metal ones for next year. I ran real Sally timing the first pass agaagainst a 1000th or so turbo trans am that has been 5.9x ....I launched right with him and was able to hold the 200shot the whole pass to over 105mph. I lost and was eliminated. Was able to lock in a grudge match against a 10.0x 680whp turbo cavy. I cranked the timing for this pass and launched even better than the first pass bUT ended up having to lift some in 2nd and 3rd but it was able to get traction with the weigh added. I beat the cave bye over 4cars. Mostly cause of the launch we seemed even after that he fought traction the whole pass. This is all no prep. So a good day for me as changed did help. There is talk of a fwd class happening so I may spend some cash on new nitrous solenoid and progessive set up and up the shot to 300ish. Also I did mark the slicks and they moved some but not much maybe .2in a pass.
