NHRA Technical update: New Super Stock/MX EX class
NHRA has announced the adoption of a new class, which will be implemented Jan. 1, 2009, and known as the EX class within SS/MX. The EX class will offer a category for Sport Compact All Motor cars to compete in at NHRA national and divisional events. EX class rules will be released at a later date. For more information, call the NHRA Technical Department, 626-250-2485.

i wonder if they will make any more classes

I talked to NHRA when NOPI cancelled there events out west. A couple people
said they were working on a class for Sp FWD next year. The last guy I talked to
said that NOPI would be around, I'd guess that was the PC answer...

I'd go real NHRA racing if they had a class for us!

division 6 tech/reps are on the ball with these types of classes, more cars, more people, more everything=good. superstock is a very very competitive class, fwd just need to cut a damn good light and get the cars to respond off the line and i think we will be competitive. just gotta be consistent. at least its superstock and not stock, a fwd honda running in stock eliminator has no chance.

cant wait to see the index's!!

and yes they are working on a sfwd-type class for the aftermarket turbo 4cyl type cars!! awesome!

I think these cars would fit right in . almost all the bracket type classes run some sort on delay box . So just get the car get off the line and GOOOOOOOOO .

top comp is a 10.90 class with delay boxes and super comp is a 8.90 delay box class, and super gas is the 9.90 delay box class. boring as hell racing is what it should be called. the 10.90 top comp cars are actual 9 sec cars w/o delay box and so on with the other classes i listed. obviously you dont have to run the delay box if you can full out run the car and hit the class dial-in

None of this applies to these classes though as this is super stock.

And you're describing a throttle stop, not a delay box. Delay boxes put a delay between when you release the transbrake (or line-lock) and you launch. The "throttle stop controller" is very similar to a delay box (probably the same, never looked into them) but it's named different.

That's not how super stock works. It's run off an index for each class and you qualify by how much you can run under the index. No throttle stops are needed in super stock.

That's what I figured but I just wanted to make it clear to everyone that this was not an index class in that sense. For some reason a lot of people I've run into don't understand the Super Stock/Comp/Stock Index system.

Super Stock/MX is in the rule book but it doesn't mean much as there is a bunch of different classes in it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by AllMoToRB18c &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">after reading that thread i have no interest in this class now...i was pretty excited about it but not now.Racing is supposed to be fun and if i have guys that think/talk like that in the same lanes as me i dont even want to be apart of it.Once again thanks NOPI for making Sport Compact racing look like **** </TD></TR></TABLE>

All you can do is show up and show them that you're a racer just like all of them. Either that, or turn it into motivation to win their division so they have to respect you

When I first read this I just assumed that it was for the Pro All Motor class but after reading it again it might not be. I really would like to see something similar to Street Stock (but on slicks) that is actually attainable for the average racer.

my problem is, nhra has been great up til this point.

some of you need to think outside the box and see that nopi did just fine without nhra. it almost seems like nhra wants to further dissect sc drag racers with this index crap.

look at the bigger picture,
imo i love those guys over there at nhra, but sc is not there main stage. let us be....

I'm not sure I agree there. Honestly, I want to race more. I think there are quite a few of us that wouldn't mind to race more and against pretty much anything. Just in D1 alone there would be 5 more events (just this year) that are quite close that I could be able to attend. Most of the DE/PA/NJ racers would be in the same boat.

I think regardless of what NHRA does with this, people will still show up for when Battle comes around.

After reading that I would love to show up and make my CV Joint breaking honda beat there Hemi Nissan

If the class happens I will go and see what they are about, there isnt enough racing in the south like you Jersey and Cali guys have.

I was looking at an Stock class that allows the SRT-4 but I would have to put the stock turbo back on. F that, I just put the BIG turbo on...

Some of them won't welcome us, that's their problem, not ours. We can kick there asses, they know it and that's why they bitch its not because you break CV joints or we have sexy women on stage when all they have to look at is their overweight or mousey looking wives/gf's.

I would run a Div 7 class along with BOTI events, makes for a full season, something we haven't had on the west coast for a long, long time.

I highly doubt this will happen as a index class. After looking into stock/super stock class rules for lets say a mid 90's neons and transfer them to a honda civic would require tons of information to attain by NHRA, engine specs, cam size, pistons, combustion chamber cc, and weight for all of the variations of sport compacts would be immense ammount og data to be gathered. Let alone the approved pistons, header, head castings codes would then have to be added to the above listed information.

Along with the blanket rules about electronics, such as in car widebands, dataloggers, 2 steps, programmable ecu are all frowned apon if not illegal in most classes. I looked into what I would need to run my car and there was near 10 pages of guidelines on one year neon chassis so all of those specific rules, part numbers, approved lists would near to be compiled for just my 1991 CRX alone. I am realist and I doubt it will happen.

These comp/stock/super racers have no tolerance for loose rules of any index's ect and it would be a shame to get this going and start a war with guys in the class. The big forums already are a buzz with the possible "import invasion" and plenty of jokes are flying around, plus there is allot of doubt we (sc cars) will bring legal cars, in classes when missing a body panel like ash tray/radio face plate is grounds for a DQ it could possibly get real ugly with hard nosed opinionated tech guys.

If the class is just a open bracket I could see it working but from the structure I have seen that isn't going to go over well. I would love to go race in that series but get my car which is very simple to fit current rule would take a ton of time/money and would require a set of rules to be released by NHRA in the near future.
