New Skunk2 Composite Intake Manifold??
Check this out!
The details state the following:
Shunk2 is proud to announce its new series of Composite Intake Manifolds and other components. Skunk2's new composite intake manifolds are made, using a
proprietary casting process, from a Carbon Fibre, S-Glass, and Ceramic reinforced
Nylon 6 that is 33% lighter, 60 % stronger, and runs 100 degrees cooler than aluminum. Keeping the air and fuel cooler results in a significant increase in horsepower and torque. This composite is also chemical resistant to all types of fuels.
Precision as cast ports for more horsepower, Nitrous Mounting bungs, and Additional Injector Bosses.
I got this brochure with my camber kits. Has anyone seen this or use this?
How much do they cost?

Looks like a awesome concept. Would like to see some dyno results from it. See how well it does against heat soak over a regular JG Edelbrock manifold.

It'll be out soon guys. has not been released yet.
see that nice goldish fuel rail too? yup composite as well. Already been dyno proven to gain HP in a back to back dyno test just by adding a fuel rail!!!
also, check out http://www.skunk2.com for their new e-catalog, its got the info on all their new parts.

That manifold is awesome and I know it works.I used Skunk 2 products and never had any problems with there stuff. All is engineered to perfect specs. My dad used to work in the Skunkworks department at Lockheed in Burbank, and by all means,All there materials are kept top secret. Its like a CIA classified product.Trust me.

on another note.. im happy to hear of someone producing a composite manifold for honda's....
i had the idea over a year or 2 ago.... but whatev... im broke and will continue to be broke.

I'm pretty sure AIR was making theirs back in 2003, I think they won an award in the composites industry for that so credit for the first in Hondas would be theirs even though I don't think they are making them anymore. Probably too expensive for the market but very nice parts.
Also Diaphorm released information on their H22 carbon manifold back in Dec of 2005 : http://www.diaphorm.com/News/M...5.pdf
Both of the above designs are using long fiber construction though. Props to Skunk for using composite casting technology, probably makes more sense from a price standpoint for this market. This is basically chopped fibers in a nylon resin. The OEM guy shave been using this for a long time, you can read about it here: http://plastics.dupont.com/pla...d.pdf It is so much easier to cast detailed pieces rather than molding long fiber. I bet they sell a lot of these if they make power which I assume they will!
I guess Skunk would be the first to offer an "all composite" manifold since the others had aluminum flanges, TB mounting points and vacuum ports.

Re: (screaminhatch)
AIR stopped production last year if i remember. I know a few people had them crack or soemthing, but overall they just couldn't keep up with demand and then the CF shortage probably ate their margin.
I'm down for the new skunk2 manifold. I wonder how it would hold up to nitrous bungs...

I know how you feel.I talked to Larry at Endyn and a few others about designing a composite intake manifold a year or so ago.I also did alot of research into manufacturing, prototype, processes, cost, materials, etc.I knew when I seen the Skunk2 composite fuel rail that it was only a matter of time before they produced a composite intake manifold. for Skunk2 for producing what I believe is going to be a great product.
BTW anyone got any idea on the price?
