MD/VA - Geico Insurance and Drag Racing?
i saw this issue a lot on other forums and was wondering if anyone on here has experienced it, or knows someone who has. people keep saying that geico is going around to maryland tracks (MIR, capitol) and are taking tag numbers down and then canceling insurance policies?? this true or just a rumor/hoax??

with the possibilities of so many insurance companies to choose from. The chance that a car is insured by Geico is a small percentage.
You think they would spend their time looking at every car to nail 1-2 cars at the track? Thats a waste of time if they actually did that.
If they actually did, thats bullshit...

vaporboy12 - Did your friend have geico? how did they catch him, did they just get his tags and then trace the tag #'s?

i dont understand why they would cancel insurance at the TRACK. i could totally understand it at the street races....but shouldnt they encourage people to go to the TRACK if they are going to race?!?!?!?! i have absolutely heard of local dealerships going to MIR (Maryland International Raceway) and getting tag numbers for warrenty purposes, especially on the newer supercharged mustang cobra's one of my freinds is a tech at the local ford dealership and they would get bonus's for reporting cars bought from the dealership that were at the track because they were having to do so much service/warrenty work. they were required to have a picuture of the car going down the track where you could see the license plate.......insurance on the other hand...thats just BS.

I don't doubt it, Geico is petty like that.
Hell when you go to the track, unbolt the tag off the car!

Re: MD/VA - Geico Insurance and Drag Racing? (bottle fed)
yeah well when i went i took the tags off after tech inspection, and even on the tech form i changed the year and model, so hopefully theres no way they got me.... im just afraid they somehow got the VIN or got a pic of me in the tech lines...but even that would be hard to argue that i was racing.

I seriously doubt that any insurance company would go to such lengths to catch a few people drag racing.
Besides, if you wreck your car at the track, you are screwed anyway, the insurance won't cover you unless there is a police report, you can't get a police report for a on track accident. So why would they even care?
Dealerships and warranties, those people would go to great lengths to catch you tearing up your cars and bringing it in to be serviced.

Re: MD/VA - Geico Insurance and Drag Racing? (B00STED Si)
actually, the real story is that someone was trying claim a bunch of stuff on their insurance policy that was not related to a "covered loss" (FRAUD). Then that person went on a website and started running at the mouth. Then the "Geico Detectives" went to the track and witnessed him racing at the track and cancelled his policy. I did hear that while at the track they wrote down a bunch of tag numbers and ran them through the National Insurance Database and found a large percentage of those people where insured with Geico. What happened from there I dont know.
Racing in anyway whether at the track or on the street is cause for cancelling your policy. The insurance company does not want to take the risk of insuring a car that races. The only people that do are a specialty company. I can get more into detail, but I wont.
If your worried about it, take your tag off!

your absolutly wrong, the insurance company would jump through hoops. Several things:
1) You can wreck your car at the track and tow it to the side of the interstate and call the police and say someone ran you off the road>thats covered and also fraud.
2) Insurance is about statistics and its more probable that someone who drag races a car will get into an accident, get more tickets, or commit fraud to the insurance company.(OF COURSE THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE, BUT YOU CAN THANK THE ONES THAT RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE)
Fraud is the reason that everyone's insurance is as high as it is. If there was no fraud everyone's premiums would be more than half of what they are paying now. So I would have to say that Yes they care.
Of course by now you can figure out what I do for a living. This brings up an interesting topic because I also have this dilemma:
For SFWD and all the Street car classes you have to have a registered and tagged vehicle because of course the car is "Street Legal", right? How do you expect someone to register their vehicle if you have to have insurance (by Virginia State Law) to register it and any insurance company can and will cancel your policy if they new it was being driven at the track? I think that this part of the rules needs to be revised and addressed. Any response would be appreciated!

It must suck to be you guys in the north.
In the south, everyone knows the deal, you want to race at the track, take the hit. If you wreck, get it fixed, because you can't call the insurance company and they won't cover you if they know you are going to the track with the car.
How is someone going to explain running off the road to the insurance company, when they have a big red or white or blue stripe(from the painted concrete walls) down the side of the car? If the insurance company falls for that, they need to be ripped off. Hell, good luck trying that with a cop in the south, they would just laugh at you on the side of the road. They were probably at the track when you wrecked it. haha
Heres the deal, I know racing is expensive no matter who you are or what you race. But if you are so worried about insurance and wrecking, call Wisenberg Motorsports Ins., they will cover you on the track and on the road. Be ready though, they insure John Force, Larry Dixon and almost all drivers and teams in any form of racing, so it is not cheap by any means.

I used to have GEICO but they cancelled my policy as soon as I got a ticket. I only had 2 points on my license and no claims other then a deer strike which was witnessed by a police officer who did a report, he took the deer home.
I have seen GEICO cars at the track before, they do take down information and use it. I know this for a fact as I confronted the guy and of course he skated around the questions. Easy to put 2 and 2 together.
I am sure they are not the only insurance company that does this. Cover up your VIN, pull your plate.

It was back in 01/02 and I saw the guy there still all the time last year. Capitol, MIR, Cecil. Seen the same guy at all the tracks, I always say hello to him. Can't do anything to a full out race car with no insurance.

Just to verify the storys are true. My buddy was racing @ Capitol in his White WS6 and someone from the track took a pic of him purging and doing his burn out. Capitol decided to post his pic on their website without his consent and GEICO got wind of it and dropped him. By the way in the pic you could clearly see his front tag. They could have at least photo shoped it.
