irwindale speedway being demolished
Hello all as the title state's the city of irwindale is planning to tear down irwindale speedway. In its replacement the plan to build a mall.
this dragstrip is the last in los angeles county. Below is a link to change.org to try and over turn the city council decision.
Id be grateful if you all could take the time to sign it.

Re: irwindale speedway being demolished
I'm not sure these petitions are the best way to go about it. City officials, at least here, do respond to emails and calls from their citizens. If you were to explain to them how acquiring the track could help curb street racing......
We're having the same issue here in SA, TX. But there is hope from the NHRA. I wonder why the NHRA doesn't buy one there. Do they feel there is there no support in LA?

Re: irwindale speedway being demolished
Irwindale has been on the bubble for a while now. Getting a decent priced plot of land large and flat enough along with zoning, permits, etc in Los Angeles / Orange County is probably a nightmare. That along with putting up with potential bullshit noise complaints like Fontana had to despite being next to an active railroad and then being forced to spend millions building a 30 ft high quarter mile long wall. Everyone knows the race scene in Southern California is as strong as any major city but property owners don't give a **** about the racers, they only give a **** about money. When the racers inevitably take to the streets the police force will cry for more funding to combat it. Then they will tell us to drive 45 to 90 minutes to Fontana during their street legals/test n tunes that happen once or twice a month if that and are always packed to the limit. Everyone wins except for the racers. Legal racing in Southern California is a sad state of affairs.

Re: irwindale speedway being demolished
We tried the change.org thing when they demolished our track in Kansas City. Tons of signatures but it didn't matter. Not sure if change.org really "changes" anything...
Sorry to hear about your track. Wish I didn't keep having to hear about tracks closing down. Seems like that's all I hear about. Our loss of KCIR has been devastating to the racers in the KC Area.
Why is it we never hear about new tracks opening up? Just old ones closing down...

It's hard to believe they would build a mall in that Location. Wasn't Irwindale just sold to a new owner a year or so back? That place seems to always be on the chopping block but sadly to say money talks.

From what i read they bought the land and waited till they had 60 percent of the property leased out. ( starbucks, chick fil a etc) thats why the track is still open to make revenue while they closed deals.
Now they hit their mark and its going to get tore down no matter what. Signatures wont save it. Its all business.

Re: irwindale speedway being demolished
R.I.P
Brotherhood Raceway...Long Beach
Carlsbad Raceway aka C-Bad
Lacr aka Palmdale....a track that made your 10 sec car into a 12 sec car
and now sadly Irwindale with the "I don't want the right lane".
At the very least in S.D. we have Qualcom(but with the S.D. stadium issues that track is on the endangered species list) and Barona for the brave. Very fast cars at this track.
Sad what has happened to Socal racing.

Re: irwindale speedway being demolished
Come down to Barona. It is 1/8th and like Lacr kind of out of the way....but you would be surprised how many fast import/domestic (socal) racers go there to test and tune in secrecy. Most cars at the track are trapping over 125 mph in the 1/8th. I have raced there a few times and my 105 mph is a slow 1/8th compared to what shows up.
