How did you become so fearless?
I drive a freshly rebuilt gsr with itr pistons swapped eg. and im scared to rip it through 1-5 gears. my fear is mostly about blowing my motor. I was wondering how did you guys become so fearless to do so in your cars? I also wanted to know whats a safe rpm to shift at, i'm running stock rods with stock bolts? Are there drills i can do that will gradually help me until i'm good enough to do it?

I shift my JDM B16A at 7800 rpms at the track, every gear. Works great because you land a split second before VTEC kicks in in the next gear. With your motor you will probably already be IN VTEC, and you can probably shift at a higher rpm anyway since your redline is higher than a B16. Just go for it, it's not scary.

i build all my engines also. but the first time we took my b16 to 9800 on the dyno i knew all was good. it is a purpose built car. am i gonna pussyfoot around? hell nah.
a dyno plot will tell you where to shift.

i broke mine in on the dyno then we went right to tuning it...reving at over 9K

honestly dont be afraid of blowing the motor yea it hurts the wallet but hey if you blow it up you can always build it faster. jusst have fun thats why people do this in the first place.

You shouldn't be building an all out setup to go race with if you cannot afford to replace it.
This means you can afford a rebuild etc financially, mentally, and emotionally.
The "hardcore" guys and gals here have been through these sort of heartaches time and time again, and still have the intestinal fortitude to keep coming back swinging.
My respect goes out to those folks.

I still struggle with this. As another poster said, you really shouldn't build a motor and smash on it unless you can afford to fix it if it breaks.
Of course, if that were true, we'd all build two blocks at a time, and have spares just sitting around. The reality is, most of us (like me) can't really afford to shell out another $6k+ on an instant's notice.
One solution is to use good parts and a reputable engine builder. This should give you a lot more confidence in your motor.
Since your motor is already built, the only solution is to not think about it. I have trained myself not to think about it at all, since IMO you will never extract full potential from the motor if you are scared to break it.....
