Gutting and Cutting?
Hey quick question guys, has anyone cut out the rear spare tire well, and just "tin" over it?
I've got my 99 hatch down to 2065lbs with myself and fuel.
I only test and tune my car so class rules don't really apply.
Wasn't sure if its a structural thing? Figure its only being dragged behind the car.
Thx for any info.
Tait.

A lot of people do that. I have a few friends that's done it to there all motor drag cars. Just weld a piece of metal over the hole. im pretty sure someones done it on here.

I used a hood skin and welded it across the rear section. I didn't weigh only the sections I removed. There was another 5 lbs of misc things but I believe I cut out around 35-40 lbs of just the trunk area.

I still haven't decided if it was still worth all of the extra work lol. Other then the slight birdshit welds I achieved it dosent look all that bad. Not many people notice it.
That is the only picture I can find of how much I cut out.

Yeah it is for weight, and to let air travel straight through. Can't build a bigger motor "I'm a broke ***" so have to loose every ounce I can to get another couple tenths.
Appreciate your input/experiences/regrets.
