Were shooting for over 500whp in my hatch right now, and im debating on axles. Drive shaft shops are very nice, but pricey, i know you get what you pay for but Ive also herd good things about gator axles. I either want DSS stage 3's or gator stage 3's. IS there any big diff between the two?

I only run stock as I am yet to break a set, but if I were to ever spend the money it would be on DSS stage 3's for sure. Cant beat the customer support.

myslef have prolly broken almost everything in my car, the only things that are still working are the wheels and the dss axles i have! lmao!!

Gator Stage 3 axles are stock parts painted green. If you are thinking about buying gator save yourself some money and buy some reman axles and switch the outer joint to a Acura Vigor joint. The hub change they sell with the stage 3s is circut worx and i think they sell for under $200 but not sure. Green spray paint is also pretty cheap.
In my book coming from a unhappy gator customer save your self the hassle and buy driveshaft shop and be done with it.

i love to help out on this exact same thing. i broke 3 stage 2s including the "HP" which i quote "cannot be broken". so then i upgraded to some stage 3s. they made exactly 6 dyno runs, 6 passes and BOTH broke on the 7th pass in my car. i talked to "gator glenn" on several occassions and he swore by his axles and also swore my car had wore out suspension parts. finally when i told him i hadnt had a DSS axle fail as of yet he got kinda hostile. theres more to this story but that is a pretty fair summary and i could go on and on about the situation but ill be nice.

finally i rectified the situation and bought DSS axles and havent had a failure yet.

my disclaimer is that i run an all motor car and typically are harder on axles than turbo motors but as far as im concerned i wouldnt put those gators under a stock LS.

BTW i have them for sale, brand new axles and hubs with 6 passes on them.

i will admit that glenn was super awesome the first 2 axles, then when i broke the 3rd and paid good money to upgrade to the stage 3s the attitude changed when i broke those.

I had GATOR HP on both of my cars (00 Civic Si & 00 Integra GSR) for 2 years. With over 200 passes on the Civic Si (w/802 whp) & well over 300 passes on the Integra (w/632 whp) on the street/track & I NEVER BROKEN ONE...

P.S. The HP axels that I had on the Integra, are the ones in the Red Hatch & still running

Not to mension that Glen & Buddy @ Gator Axels have THE BEST customer service...

gators c/s is good, BUT i still think i shouldnt have broken my axles on a 1-2 shift, plus the second time around, someone there let one of mine out with an h22 inner on it. (i am b series) the HP's are nice when they have them. i asked him about them last time i talked to glen, and they didnt have them and didnt know when they were coming.

i am going to try dss stage 5's. i dont think the green stage 3's can handle what they are supposed to. this is just my oppinion.

i was having major axle problems when i got hooked up with gator glenn.i bought stage 2 axles and broke them out the first pass.gator glenn gave me great support and upgraded me to the hp's. they never gave me a problem for 2 season's but the tranny broke.i tried ordering a set for a friend and glenn said he couldn't get any parts and didn't know when he would get them.my friend bought dss stage 5's.he parted the car out not long after,so i traded the axles with him.so now i have the dss and the only complaint i have is the fitment.the dss' seem to be longer and i have to remove the spindle to get them out.the gators seemed to fit better,but since i might not be able to get the gators fixed if i have a problem,i had no choice.overall,i have been pleased with both

I personally would go straight to the stage 5's or just run oem and pray/preload. On DSS stage 3's with hubs, I've launched at 7500rpm in a 270whp all motor car on 24.5's without preloading and it never failed.

Tony does Axles for a lot of pro cars so they are proven to be very good!

just opening you up to options. The only downfall is that he is in Canada.

I personally saw a 220Hp car break DSS stage 3's on a launch.

He ran the car many times before that with the 3's.

They are really great quality but they arent invincible, Like they appear in the thread.

I can only speak of my experience with DSS. Have been using their axles for years and have had very few problems with them, if any in some cases. As well, Frank from DSS is a really fair guy, knows his stuff, and IMO interested in putting out a quality product. My $0.02

Nothing is invincible in the motorsports world. I saw Angela Proudfoot break Rob Moores Nitro axles.......and those are $5000....lol.....this was years ago........and also witnessed the Venom team break some Mark Williams stuff. Everything has a life span

good point too. in my situation i was running stockers for about 2 yrs only breaking one. when i anticipated going 11.99 i added a 6pt to the car then i started breaking axles. i think i went through 5 stockers, bought the gators then had more problems with the gators than the stockers.
of course since gator is in florida and im in washington there was downtime. that was the year 2 hurricanes hit florida and power went down among other problems. i always sent the broken axle next day to get in as much racing as possible. mother natures conditions obviously put a hamper on things but i missed out on alot of racing that year.
my point is i believe everything does have a lifespan but you also need to consider how much downtime its going to cost you. the years before this happened normally hit every test and tune, every local race and some out of town. this would add up to about 15 or more times at a track over the course of the season equalling around a hundred trips down the track. that year i didnt have very many timeslips at the end to show for all the money i had spent on the axles, shipping, missing races etc. then the stage 3s that i upgraded to showed up after the last race of the season. just out of curiousity i hit the dyno to see what kind of #s i was putting down. the car peaked at 223/150 in a 1600lb car.
