With so many of us growing up without a father, it's refreshing to see how great a father/son relationship can, and should be. I can only hope to be half the dad and friend he seemed to be with his son.

As someone that had lost his father 10 years ago I can understand your feeling of helplessness and grief. I too felt that. I did not know your father but after reading everyone's memories of him I can see how big an impact one can make in a community, in an industry, in a life...
You do not have big shoes to fill... you have your own to fill. Your father is a special person that only he can fill his shoes and touch everyone as much as he did. But you, you will make your own mark in the world through his guidance as a father and friend to you. His legacy will live on through you, your family and through the people in our little community.
Now, through your father's legacy, you will be a stronger person.
I know it's hard to hear stuff like this but believe me, the pain will go away over time... your father's spirit and soul will live on in everything you do.
You'll notice everyday small things, like habits (good and bad), sayings, etc., that you picked up from your dad that you do and then realize where it came from... those things will make you smile because you know he's always with you.
Peace be with you and your family. You are your father's son and he was already proud of you.

WOW! I haven't been on this site for a long while but, this is very sad and heartbreaking news.
I've never had the pleasure of meeting Earl in person but, as mentioned by many others, he was always very helpful with every little question i had on this site. I would send countless instant messages and he would put forth the effort to answer my question as thoroughly and accurately as possible.
Definitely a great guy online and I'm sure he was even a better person to speak with, face to face.
my deepest condolensces goes out to the Laskey's.

Had Earl take care of my 84.5mm resleeve w/ Benson. He is/was a very straight up person with true integrity.
An example for others to follow.

Re: (mintef)
I recently bought a sleeved block from earl.
Super nice guy, very friendly, definitely went way out of his way to make sure that the block was perfect, got me a great deal at his expense.
I'm very very sorry to hear about the loss.

Re: (Garcia-Racing)
i'm really going to miss seeing earl at the races... i feel fortunate to have known him; he had a positive outlook on life, and he supported the scene in a way that few of us can match.
my condolences to mike and the family.
