Default balancing Slicks and Skinnies??

We always use a shop to balance our slicks and they use a road force balance machine.. and gets quit expensive but im sure is worth it. My question is how many of you 150+mph guys are doing this, and should I do the same with the rears?

Hello 85mmek9,

Find a bubble Balancer and call it good, if I bubble balancer T/F and T/F funny cars that go 265-315 you will be find. Any type of balancing would be a benefit.

Best of Luck,

I have never balanced my slicks, but then again, I haven't gotten around to using tire screws or beadlocks yet either, and I need to.

as far as the skinnies go i balance at the set tire pressure. i also used to balance my slicks an really never had any luck. i would get a lot of vibration. I asked miller about it and he said he never balances them. so I went ahead and tried it and its the smoothest ride i have ever felt at 6psi.

I dont balance my slicks either and it rides smooth. I used to run a tire shop and would mount a lot of wheels for the local pro mod guys, they never balanced theirs. The only time I ever had a FWD guy complain back then was when we would balance them (some where dead set on having them balanced)

the only time I ever tried not balacing mine was when I had a set of Bogarts that just happened to be way out for some reason. It shook like hell, so I have been balancing them every since.

I had my old 15 inch wheels/slicks not balanced and never felt a thing. When i got lenso's i threw them on the balancer just to check them and they were about 4 ounces out, so i decided to balance them! Rides smooth as can be...

I've run my bogarts balanced and not balanced and didn't feel any difference. It really shouldn't vary as much as there are no steel belts in them like radial street tires. Thats as long as you have a good well made wheel also.

you guys that are NOT balancing, you should try it once and i bet you will notice a difference

i ran a set of hoosier 24.5's which werent balanced a while ago on one of my old cars and it got a decent vibration around the 1/8th mile and this was on a slow 12 sec car

i have balanced my slicks ever since and have never had any vibration or shaking EVER...although im not breaking 130mph haha

they can take a good bit of weight compared to a radial but you can balance them out and you will notice a difference

i may try to run my next set unbalanced to see if i can get away w/ it, but i bet i will be unhappy

i think there are just a lot of variances in wheels and tires. So it will never be the same for everyone. At my work, it's not uncommon to mount new all season radial tires on cars and some wheels not need any weight at all. So my point is, run em without weights and if you feel there is a vibration, then have em balanced. It's not gonna be the same for everyone.

I think it's different for everyone. We have always balanced our 24.5s on our 800hp Integra and it has gone straight with no vibrations. When we tried a set without weights i noticed a big difference. Some say it works some say it doesn't.

either you don't mind your dash falling on your lap at the top end, don't trap over 60mph or it tells us how much you race!!! hehehe
