ARP main stud torque spec OR Honda torque spec ??? If i use arp then its a little out of round.
I had a question about the ARP main stud torque specs.
ARP said use 75lbs honda says 49lbs for 1 and 5 and 56lbs for 2-3-4 for GSR and 56lbs for LS. im using a LS block with aftermarket girdle.
I put some ACL race bearings in and torque them to ARP's specs and its out of round .0015, i get .0015 clearance on all 5 main caps but its out of round on the sides. Its .003 on the sides and .0015 up and down.
Then i loose them up and torque to 56lbs and my clearance is .002 which is what im shooting for, but its also out of round a little bit. Only .0003-.0005.
My question is what do you engine builders do when you use ARP main studs.

You'd think ARP would give you some kind of warning with their rod bolts and main studs, something along the lines of "DO NOT JUST INSTALL THESE W/O MACHINING!!!". LOL

Yep...I remember Jim Stewart ran into this problem on the first couple B-Series Engines he did for me in 2003. Being his genie-pig was expensive

yea thats what they were telling me. they gonna cut a little off the block and caps then hone to factory specs.

But With what motor? LS or GSR? he is using a ls with an aftermarket girdle for extra precautions.
I would do the same, just like so many others have in the past

i missed that part then about him having an LS engine
we use GSR Blocks with the OEM Girdles with the OEM Main Bolts

Re: (Innes)
My vote goes for oem bolts as well. If you want to use arp studs because you think they are stronger go ahead, but why put more tq on them? Something that distorts and changes bore sizing does not sound good to me. Plus oem tq specs are given with oil. If you use their lube, it will put even more tq. on those studs.
