another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
after 2.5 years of putting around with a stock gsr and two different turbos i managed a personal best of 11.4 @ 124 untill 3rd gear went (car had a 10 second pass in it on 15-17psi). basic setup 6262, gsr lsd trans, ectune, custom turbo kit, nlr ams 500, e85, 12psi. 2450lb with me
for 2015 i decided to switch it up to a b20vtec, still 100% street car with goal of a 9.99 @ 150. I dont really know how much power it will take to get there ive seen any where from 675-800 trap 150 (weight and dyno's all vary) but it will be on about 32-35psi on either c16/e85. any tips, tricks, or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Portinio78 had a VERY basic DelSol turbo b18c set up on Hondata and several years of dialing it in got him a 9.69.
Again, it was a no frills build that really screwed. 38 passes on the GSR trans at that level and it was just needing freshed up! The CC dual disc was even in good shape.
He was meticulous at weight distribution and setting the struts. He also had a Full Race traction bar.

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
i added the 10 pt cromoly cage but I haven't weighed it yet, im guessing anywhere in between 2500-2550. had the car on the dyno for the first time to break it in. stopped at 351/290 at 6k rpm on 11psi after hearing a popping sound on decel coming from the head. turns out to be faulty vtec solenoid. just need to find dyno time and well see 93 octane numbers for 10.50 index honda day driven to and from track

interested in this build. I too am on a simple setup trying to get deep 9's though I believe your trans will be the weakest link if you're pushing anywhere close to 800 and driving it daily

we did 9.9 @ 150 with an ek hatch and 10.1 @ 153 in an em1 last year with stock trans.
650whp for the ek. 790 with the em1(zero weight reduction looks like a showroom em1)

^^^yea ive been following those builds, pretty much gave me the inspiration.
stopped at 487/340ish due to a turbo self destruct. had over 500 on 18 psi in it. 2 week turn around from precision so im slapping some 5831 on it just for this weekend and throwing as much boost as possible to this thing

not saying it isn't doable just as a daily would be interesting. I have a weekend warrior EM1 at @600, tracked it a few times and chewed 3/4 selector (wouldn't engage 3rd) this past weekend on the street when I upgraded to a stickier street tire. the spare trans helped with parts to fix it. also have a drag EM1 at @800 and went 9.8 @ 159 on garbage track prep but has a faceplated setup which helps banging gears and allows me to go rounds. just my .02 but I will be following this closely because im just trying to show you can do low 9's on nothing special

I went 10.1@146 and a best MPH of 149 with about 750whp in a 2600lb car on a bone stock open diff GSR trans on a 62mm turbo. Made about 30 hits on that trans and pulled it apart this winter and it looked brand new. Car would have went an easy 9.8-9.7 on a prepped track. Our track was garbage.

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
not bad numbers but a prepped track, aka Jason miller prepped MIR, would have really tested that open dif/stock trans. but this gives me hope for my weekend car to go faster

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
I've shredded two LS trans pinion gears at only 550whp, plus they've both broken in motion in 1st gear. I've now switched to a B16A trans with Circuit Worx 4.4 gears, hoping that will solve the issue.
Good luck, from what I've read a bit of wheelspin in the lower gears helps keep the stock trans alive.

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
We ran a stock trans for a long time quaife and a cuff. Mid to low 9s passes and we got 20-30 hits before pulling them out and going threw them. Without the cuff 10-20 hits max and it would destroy 4th gears. A good fluid is key, on a budget I'd suggest half honda and half penzoil sincromesh.9f you have 5he money to spend amsoil manual transmission gear lube 75w-80 gl4

I tune cars that have been high-mid 9's, stock trans without cuff's that have NEVER broke. A well tuned (not just dyno tuned) car, a good driver, and the right oil..

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
I use Torco RTF but I've heard good things about redline shock proof and Pennzoil synchromesh. someone mentioned amsoil manual trans gear lube, I just think anything is better than stock. Torco RTF works for me, tuning on a dyno pak <<which can destroy or test the strength of a trans....with multiple hits at the track, fluid came out looking new but that is just my experience with it

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
ive seen good results with the redline shockproof so thats what i run
was at 487 on 18psi about to make a 500+hp pull and ran into some turbo failure because of a blocked feed line, i have a paper weight 6262 now. upgrading to 6266, new feed line, two oil changes and i guess it will be back on the dyno.
any one have experience with pro 1's on a turbo b series? this car doesnt want to vtec under 7k rpm or it just says **** you. and is this motor safe to 9500 ? these rods scare me

Re: another b series quest for 9's with stock gear set
i ran the DDtech Stage 1s on my b16 and they didnt like vtec below 7000 either and still dropped power when engaged. i think they had too much overlap at the settings we had them at, but i didnt think of that until after i had already swapped back to the CTRs. gonna try them again soon. try separating your cams a degree or 2 and see if it does any better.
