Default ACT CLUTCH PROBLEM

I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem or suggestions on how to fix it. I have a ACT extreme pressure plate with a street disc. The clutch grabs just fine but past 7500 rpm it likes to stick. I push in clutch and won't let go untill rpms drop back below 7500 or so. (Not very damn good on my engine!) Anyone that can share your help will be appreciated.

I have found some other people here locally that have had similar problems with the ACT's excessive clamping force on the pressure plate. One car dropped .5 sec in the quarter switching up to a kevlar clutch. I tend to agree that ACT's just suck. Any recommendations on what kind of clutch some others have had good luck with would be appreciated. I am running an all motor set up with 180whp. I do want it to be able to handle a power adder in the future. Thanks-

I would say this either a clutch that was not blead all the way or it could definitely be a poor flywheel surfacing job, you have to understand that your reving to 8000+ and when you push the clutch in, the disk is sopposed to come appart from the flywheel. Well if the flywheel isn't surfaced evenly all the way around its gona catch the disc and still drag it along there for not being able to shift of the gear even thou your foot is on the pedal all the way down on the floor.

I highly doubt act will be willing to take their disc back and give you another one unless it was a obvious sign of falioure on their part.

BTW: I have the xtreme pressure plate with a stock flywheel and 6 puck disk in my car that I have made 12+ passes at the track with 450whp shifting at 9500rpm and I have never ever had this happen to me.

No you guys didnt get my problem i cant even drive my car anymore... Like i sad for some odd reason it just doesnt go into gear anymore.... Like i said pedal fell is great like it should be.... But when you go into gear it just stops and wont go in... I like redid the clutch job like three times thinking that it must of been a mistake but surely if you do it three times and still dont work there has to be something wrong wouldnt you guys say... Like i said all that i could come to is that the presure plate is fuked...... Well ill take some pictures tommorow and show that my clutch is still new and pressure plate is still like new......

Did you locktite and torque the flywheel and pressure plate bolts to spec when you did the clutch job?

Flywheel bolts backing out is another thing that will cause the car not to come out of gear unless the engine is shut off.

Everything was torqued to specs..... All throw out and pilot bearnings are brand new..... And trust me everything is right on the clutch job..... The only thing that is left is that the pressure plate is fuked...

OK HERE!!! LISTEN TO THIS: ACT and ClutchNET is the best overall single plate clutch kit for it's money. Try buying those $100 ebay Exedy clutch kit, those **** like in 2 days if you drag them. Now try buying Clutchmasters..haha..those are a joke. They work, but if abused hard they also take a crap in no time. ACT builds their clutches from scratch unlike C.M. and other cheap high performance clutch companies. ClutchNet(oldest aftermarket high performance clutch company) is redesigning their single disc clutch kit. They are also taking it to a new level like ACT has. In fact, I just installed my newly designed ClutchNet clutch kit for my b16 390whp street car and it feels nice and very practical since I bought the 6puck with springs. Both these companies are the ones to buy from. I am not a shop trying to endorse these two brands just a chip of the old block with much experiences with clutch companies. haha don't even try Competition Clutch, RPS(their single disc are garbage...only the multidisc are good), etc....

JUST MY OPINIONS and EXPERIENCE!!!

i just had an issue with my ACT HDSS, i have had it on my car for about 50k miles, and about ten days ago i couldnt downshift and heard slight scraping coming from being in neutral.
then the next day i was able to drive normal for abotu 5 minutes then the clutch pedal felt normal, but i could not up or downshift without rev matching.

pulled the tranny and i found that the spring pockets had been scraping against the flywheel bolts (which were NOT loose). eventually the lip on one pocket was gone a spring popped out and locked the flywheel and disc together, and cracked the hub.

according to the amount of friction material on the disc i had at least 15k more miles on the clutch.

anyway id pull teh tranny and i wouldnt be surprised to see that you got something messed up like a wrong stepheight on teh flywheel or a poor surface.

It sounds like your pressure plate is not holder whatever power that you're making. We had CM stage 4 and 5s and it just wasn't holding up on the pressure plate side. After we switch to a twin disc clutch, it shifts very smooth. and less stress for the clutch assembly and engine.

Hope this helps

Default Re: ACT CLUTCH PROBLEM (Dual Cams)

we have experienced this problem before. it is possible that it is partially a flywheel resurfacing issue which would explain high RPM problems, but if you are now not able to drive the car at all and only able to get into gear when the car is shut off, it is most likely a strap on the inside of the pressure plate that is broken, defective, or wasn't installed properly from ACT. we run clutchmasters constantly, but i have dealt with ACT before and they were fairly easy to deal with. (warranty issue also). good luck.
