Re: 1st K-Powered SFWD in the 8s- Franklin Vu(Avid)
What an amazing weekend it was! Myself and my friend Andy had left Toronto around 5am on to route to Mach V Motorsports in VA. We got there around 5pm and waited for Mr. Hunt :p While we were there Mr. Prayoonto had stopped by to get an alignment with his beautiful DSS Civic (Congrats Norris on the new PB) that car is so sick. So finally Mr. Hunt shows up and we got CHICK FILLET, I love it lol... We get on the dyno and end up finishing around 1am. We made 987HP on 42psi, good enough? Yep...
Friday morning we're up and back at Mach V, I needed to add 100lbs to make weight. Thanks to Mike Gerber and Tommy for the fab work on making it all possible. Their fab work is amazing and pricing was very fair. Once that was done we just had to reset ride height and corner scale the car. We wanted to make to the track to make a couple of hits on this fresh set up, but it got late so we ended up at Chilli's ewwww :p Jason's favourite place! LOL
Then came Saturday morning, we were up at 5am and ready to leave in a panic. Mr. Everly had said there was 600 trailers at the gate, I was like damn! Get to the track and luckly we got with Allen and Rolando from DP Performance. We ended up in the back of the track near the scales! Next year I'm coming on Wednesday night lol... We go over the car and now ready for the first hit. I didn't know what to think, but I knew she'll go straight thanks to Darren's special alignment at Mach V ;-) I get up to the burn out box and I couldn't even do a burn out lmao... I even stalled it, I was so embarassed in front of a stage like WC. So we ran it had some issues with the clutch, I coasted to a 10.37@98. We then figured out that I didn't have any rpm during the burnout to lite the tires. Fixed that went for a 2nd hit in round 2 qualifying and went 9.22@158! I was like yaaaa! We qualified 9th and was good enough for tomorrow.
Race day comes around and lucky me I got Brian Fischer first round. I was like oh crap. I knew he had some issues during qualifying, but it's Brain Fischer. I have nothing but respect for him and he can drive, so I got a little nervous not going lie lol... Then when I got in the burn out box I was fine, zoned out and worried about me. Did my thing and went 9.15@159 edging him out. Pheww...
Then we went on to 2nd round of eliminations against Jay Meagher of Real Street and with his mustang. Then I got really worried because his car and mine qualified really close, but with him I was worried about the light that he was going to cut on me lol... This guy cuts 0.20 - .30 all weekend. So he starts giving me lessons about the light while we were staging, I told him to leave me alone lmao! :p Get up to the line and I double bulb'd him and had to back off, go it on it again and bam! He tree's me .30 to my .118 lol I caught him at the 330 mark and never looked back. I said **** that was a good run, not knowing yet that I went 8's. I look back in my mirror I see this cloud of smoke and his car along the wall. I got worried packed my chute back and drove to weighing scales, where they wouldn't give me my slip until they checked my turbo. I was like bro give me my slip please, my turbo fine. It's of the shelf anyone can buy it. He's no you have to wait, so was like co'mon! So the guy says go get it, I run over grab it and looked... 8.97@166 I was jumping up and down freaking out like a fat kid in a candy store lol... People were looking at me like what's up with this Chingy lol... I was so happy, I had a tear in my eye. Called my gf and my dad right away to tell them the good news :-) Came back to the pits with DP guys hugging me... There was definitely a little too much man love after that run.
After that we went round another around against a JPC Mustang, won that and the event was then cancelled. It was getting late and unsafe for the cars to keep going.
Overall we didn't talk much, just went out and did it. I just wanted to thank everyone that is involve in our program and I'm sorry for the long story lol...
- Jason Hunt and Charlie Schaffer for thier friendship, experience and know how. These guys have taught me a lot and took me in, I'm very greatful for that. Hunt's tuning is just amazing and the ET's speak for themselves not some 1000+ HP dyno graph that everyone post. If you need anything from this man hit him up at www.jasonhunttuning.com or pm him.
- Tony Shagday and the Skunk2 Racing family. Their Stage 3 cams, valve train and suspension components are used by us. Their cams make great power, but even more their service, quality and experience is what makes them one of the best in the industry.
- Frank and the Driveshaftshop family. Frank you've stuck by me and helped me out back in 2004 with both of my race cars. The Pro Level axles that helped me with is what keeps us going with confidence!
- Rob @ JDMCARS.com for all his support and friendship throughout the years.
- Wil from Exospeed your friendship throughout the years, your wheels and front end are just by far superior!
- Orlando from BYT thank you bro, you know without you the car was going to sit in my garage lol...
- Allen and Rolando from DP Performance! These guys make me feel like I'm apart of their family! Their fab work on my car is amazing and they're really the SFWD factory! We just added another 8 second car :-)
- Carey/Reza/Tom @ Full Throttle NYC for getting us parts when we needed it, they have everything instock! Always, one of the best shops in the NE!
- Joel @ Speed Theory his wiring and is bar none! His attention to detail is what made everything reliable while looking very professional. Thanks bro :-)
- John @ Darton Sleeves, everyone was doubting the MID's in a K-Series... Well my motor makes power and still reliable with no issues! MID's FTW!
- Jim @ Justice Race Engines I'm so happy we got together :-) without you I would not be runnig right now and your engines are superior, makes power, reliable and your service is just fantastic! I can't wait till we build that other engine we wanted to do ;-)
- Geoff @ Full Race, thank you for the best manifold in the industry! The quality and strength of that manifold is amazing. I will never buy anything other then Full Race.
- Rick Everly and the whole Mobtown Crew, just a great family to go racing with. Thank you for making a part of your group and friendship.
- Armondo and Omar @ Gato Intakes. Best sheet metal intakes in the business! Made more power and better built then any other one around.
- Big thank you to my work, Avid Racing for giving me the time off and for the Pro mounts as well as Pro traction bars they've held up the abuse and power we throw at it :-)
Last to my gf Katie, my family for putting up with my crap and my friends for understanding when I ditch them to work on my car lol... Thank you!
Watch out for us next season we hope to do better, I only had 3 hits on that fresh set up ;-)
Marquis thank you for the video... GRS Motorsports and Jenny @ Tempest for the awesome pics! :-)
I'll put up some in car vids later today when I figure out how too lol...

It may be the bouncing of the in-car camera but in that video your car looked a lot faster than 8.9's
Smooth run and Congrats on PB

I can't wait Jim :-) some more Darton MID sleeves should be on the way to you soon. I can't thank, you enough! This block that we went 8's on was something that we put together quick, this combo anyone can buy. Justice Darton sleeved block with CP off shelf pistons with upgrade pins, Carillo Rods with the Car bolts, Skunk Stage 3 cams and valvetrain.
