Just wanted to let you guys know, the japanese clay bar works great! (can be bought at superautobacs.) I believe its comparable to the mothers brand, and only 4-5 bucks each!

Re: Detailing products FAQ (carbnjunkie)
This is an awesome thread. I've got a question though:
I just recently got my whole car resprayed and the shop said not to wash it for a month, and not to wax it for two months. I finally washed it, but its another month before waxing. For fresh paint, where should I start? My main concern is protecting the paint, getting rid of the insane amount of swirls apparently left by the wetsanding / buff, and also getting the paint to shine as much as possible of course.

Try some Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze. It will remove swirls and protect the paint while allowing it to breathe.

Re: (vti444)
bunmango, can u help me out with my shopping list..
porter cable 7424
6 in counter weight
6 inc backing plate
foam polishing pads
foam finishing pads
now for my waxes, being that i"ll mostly be using it on newer cars with decent paint, maybe some light scratches, light swirls, at the most light oxidation or hazy/cloudy looking paint, what waxes do u reccomend from meguiars line, i was thinking these, correct me if im wrong or add/delete what u feel is needed
dacp- for my most stubborn jobs
swirl free polish - for most of my jobs
speed glaze -to follow up either of these two
then i need a sealant and wax fo follow those, and can be applied wi the pc..
question, do use the pc to rub in (any of the above waxes) till its almost invisible, then wipe with a mf towel or just use the pc to put the wax on, like till it hazes nice and white as opposed to in the paint, where u can barely see it , then wipe with a mf towel..
your response is appreciated..

Actually #80 Speed Glaze and #82 Swirl Free Polish are pretty similar. I'd go with the #80 Speed Glaze. It breaks down really easily and you can usually go directly to your LSP (last step product, either a sealant, a wax, or a wax followed by a sealant ) I think what you're looking for is a fine polish/glaze, like Clearkote's Vanilla Moose or Meguiar's Show Car Glaze to follow up #82 or #80.
Meguiar's polishes contain what they call 'diminishing abrasives' which break down as you work the polish into the paint. You rub it in until it's almost invisible and then you wipe it off with a MF. If you were to apply the polishes like you do a wax (thin layer and wait for hazing) you'd 1) have one hell of a time wiping it off and 2) not do much at all since removing the swirls comes from the polishing action.

Re: (B U N M A N G O)
ok i got ya,so for older paint use the dacp, then #80, then SCG, for newer paint skip the dacp, and go to #80 then SCG..
#80 with foam polishing pad
SCG with foam finishing pad correct, and if i need the dacp another foam polishing pad for that..
are there any waxes, that cant be layered on top of a sealant, specificly from the meguiars line.. SCG is a polish correct, so what would be put on top of that as a sealant, and what can be put on after that as a wax?...i dont want to put the wrong item on top of another....all my products will mostly be from the meguiars line, due to me getting them pretty cheap..so if u can refer products from there line i will apreciate it, to make it easier for me..

Your pad selection looks good... as for sealants from Meguiar's, they recently came out with #20 Polymer Sealant. They also have a good carnuba wax, #16, but it has been discontinued for sale here in the states. If you can find a can, pick one up.
Also, how do you get these Meguiars products for cheap? Hook me up

Re: Detailing products FAQ (B U N M A N G O)
Great thread
I was wondering if you could help me out with this one thing tho...I did my last waxing and it didnt come out so great, so I need to strip the old coat off and put some new fresh coats. Would Joy dishwalking liquid be ok to use, and if so can you recomend what ratio of water to joy the mixture should be???
Also, can you recomend any products to protect a vinyl convertible top. Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciate it

You don't need to use dishwashing liquid to strip your wax... you can polish it off or use clay to remove it.
Not sure on the convertible top thing though, try some 303 Aerospace Protectant on it. Maybe JMS JT can answer this one since he has an S2K... actually he has a hardtop on it now so... yea

Paint is pretty decent, mild scratches but aside from that it looks really good. I would obviously use a clay bar and some microfiber clothes and this would all be with a PC .
What kind of pads should I use, I always get confused with different pads available.

Re: Detailing products FAQ (.ken)
A couple polishing pads (one for #83, one for #80, and one for the Wolfgang Polish) along with one finishing pad should do the trick... since the paint you'd be working on is in pretty good shape, I don't think you'd need a cutting pad.
I personally prefer Lake Country pads (yellow = cutting, white = polishing, grey = finishing) over the Meguiars (red = cutting, yellow = polishing, tan = finishing) but I haven't used any of the newer pads like Sonus.
I usually don't use finishing pads... I only have one, and I only use it with EX-P. Most other sealants I prefer applying by hand.

you had #83 and #80 switched.. like I said before, if the paint isn't too bad, you probably can skip the #83. You can use a finishing pad or polishing pad w/ the pre-wax cleaner if you'd like.

you had #83 and #80 switched.. like I said before, if the paint isn't too bad, you probably can skip the #83. You can use a finishing pad or polishing pad w/ the pre-wax cleaner if you'd like.

Re: Detailing products FAQ (.ken)
I hope this is the right thread to post stuff about my detailing product, find!
After years of using zaino and other brands... ive found a gem called Shining Monkey, i bought the stuff from their website but ive seen them around for a long time just never took the time to "test" anythign new, after all i was content with what i was using... but the itch took over and i decided to try it out!
this stuff is crazy, real easy to get off but the results are even more impressive!!
look at this pic i found on is300.net of a car that underwent the monkey treatment
so... not sure if this is a FAQ, but my find deserves to be mentioned...
their website is http://www.shiningmonkey.com , dont knw which stores have it but the wait on shippin... well worth...
Just my 2c

Re: Detailing products FAQ (el es vtec)
has anyone heard of jax wax? i've been combing through the forum but havent seen this mentioned. Anyone used this before? Saw it at the Goodguys car show and they sell it at Honda dealerships.
