I used Meguiar's Scratch-X as a quick fix-it for my one faded headlight. However it looks faded again after about 3 weeks. What can I do to make it look brand new?

only thing I have to add is although is recommended to cover the alternator/dizzy/etc, I have never done it on any car (except dizzy, but I dont have one on my current car), and I have never ever had a problem. wet it, spray on simple green let soak and spray off

simple green > all other cleaner/degreasers

me too, and ive done this to many many cars, even ones that are DIS (distributorless)
never had a problem. i would worry more about water getting in the engine thru breather holes than anything, but that would eventually evaporate if it wasnt too much water

Might be overkill. How can you say this if you don't know the condition of the car?

I think it really depends on the condition of the car, the paint, the enviornment, etc.. A daily driver that is always in the garage is different than one kept inside. This doesn't take into consideration some cars are driven 5,000 miles a year and others are driven 30,000.

I don't see the point of claying every week and waxing every other. You shouldn't be giving advice like this.

WOW, finally used claybar on my car.....baby-smooth finish.

I basically washed car, used mother's claybar, washed again, dried w. microfiber cloth, and used mother's wax, wiped off with microfiber cloth..........only question is, how do you guys get it so glossy? mines shines and looks clean, but there are cars out there that REALLY shine.

Ok, heres what I did to my car yesterday.

- car washed & dried with microfiber towel
- clayed bar my car for the very first time. I didnt wash the car again after that. I wasnt sure if that was nessacary.
- used meguiars show car glaze #7. wiped it off with new terry cloth towel.
- used meguiars NXT wax. let it sit and then wiped it off with a new terry cloth towel.

The results were awesome. My paint looks 10x better than it was before.
My question is, how often should I use the meguiars glaze? Each time I wax my car every month? Once every 2 months??

it's up to you, it wouldn't hurt... I'd probably do it every other time I waxed...

if it's been 6mo since you waxed your car, you definitely should claybar... if you keep a good coat of wax on it then there shouldn't be a need to clay too often. I do it twice a year or so myself... it also depends on whether you garage your car or not. Where in the Bay Area are you located?

whoa now clay every week and wax every other?? no. Claying is meant to be a step BEFORE any kind of polishing or waxing. When you use a clay bar, there will be NOTHING left on the paint. Nothing. No contaminants of course, but no wax or any other protection from the elements either. ALWAYS wax immediately after using a clay bar.

Most clay bars can only be used about 3 times anyway, so that would get really expensive really quick if you did that every week, not to mention be MAJORLY time consuming.

And why would you use a medium cut polish first, and then a heavy cut? Only go heavier if the medium cut didn't take out all the swirls. And if you do go with a heavy cut, you have to do the medium cut all over again, then fine polish or glaze after that.

What do you guys use for getting rid of bugs and crap off the front end? My bug sponge thingy always leaves mad swirls.

I usually just use straight car wash concentrate, but what do you guys use to scrub with?
