Default EZ way to remove alt. from 87 Honda

First time post, but have been reading this forum for a few weeks due to a few problems that I will discuss in another thread. Anyway, here is the way to get the alt off this car, this is an 87 accord DX carbed. The first time you do this it will take a little time but a piece of cake if you have to do it again. Normal steps at first, car safely up on jackstands, key out, disconnect negative cable at battery, remove belly pan, loosen tensioner nut on alt, remove tensioner bolt, remove pivot nut and bolt from alt, remove charge cable and field connector from alt, set alt off to one side so you have access to the alt mounting bracket. Remove the two 14mm head bolts holding the bracket to the block, I had to use a 1/2" breaker to get them off the first time. Remove bracket from block. Get yourself a good bimetal hacksaw blade. You will see an ear on the block that is at the rear left corner of the block flush with the pan mounting surface and with a hole thru it. It does nothing ,on this car anyway, maybe it was used for locating the block for machining at the factory. Cut the ear off by making two cuts into the hole in the center of the ear. One cut will be on the left side of the ear with the blade facing towards the right front wheel, the other cut will be on the rear of the ear with the blade facing forward. You do this with the blade only, no handle. Be careful the top part of the blade doesn't cut into the timing cover. With the ear gone the alt will come right out from below in front of the axle. On reinstall, put the alt up in there first, mount the alt bracket, etc.

I just did an alternator on the same car and i ended up taking the driver side bolts out of the crossmember that holds the lower control arm. and also had to loosin the passenger side bolts on the crossmember as well. Then the alternator fell right out.

Sounds like another good way. I said jackstands, actually I had a couple 2x6s under the left front tire since my ramps and stands are home and I'm not home. Once I got the ear cut off I used the car jack to lift the body up some to get clearance for the alt to come out between the axle and body. This has been a good car but what a PITA to work on.

Yea removing the alternator from the carbed accords is a mess. Much easier on the fuel injected models where you can pull it out behind the intake manifold.
Generally the accords are easy to work on though.
