That's pretty sweet! I'd love to build an EV one day. Lil bit spendy to do though, but not having to get gas all the time would rock!

Insanely slow, heavy, and they killed all the trunk space. And 40 mile range? Wow. No thanks, I'd rather give my money towards "foreign oil" (lol) at this point than a car that goes 40 miles and tops out at 60mph.

40 miles and 60mph is more than sufficient for 90% of the US population's commute. Who gives a **** about foreign oil, imagine not having to buy gas just for the commute back and forth to work! And I guarantee the electric motors have great off the line torque. They make peak torque from 0 RPM and maintain it up to their maximum RPM.

Plus imagine all you'd learn building something like this. It would be fun as hell. And nearly zero maintenance costs involved because there is only 1 moving part. Maybe I would have to agree with you and not buy one already done, and build one instead! But it's definitely a good vehicle for the average person who just wants an A -> B car.

But we aren't the people who just want A -> B cars, are we?

Theres a guy from UCF here in Orlando that has a 88-91 4wd wagon that he went EV with and its still 5speed. He said the car is good for highway speeds and gets decent miles on a full charge
