1989 Accord Extreme Shaking in Steering Wheel
I have a 1989 Honda Accord LXi, programmed fuel injected model. When the engine is cold, everything runs great. After warming up, the steering wheel will shake very bad when the transmisson is in gear while stepping on the brake (like at a stoplight). I noticed that it stops shaking when I remove the vacuum line connected to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. I have checked the FPR and all vacuum lines and everything looks to be fine. What is really causing this and why does disconnecting the vacuum line fix this? Thanks.

if it shakes when ur slowing down it could maybe be your rotors change them and see if you notice a difference

idle is low.
clean the TB and take of the idle control motor and clean out the screen with carb clean and compressed air.

Re: 1989 Accord Extreme Shaking in Steering Wheel (night)
Thanks guys. I'll give this a try. I've done basic maint such as oil/filter change, fuel filter change, PCV valve replacement, transmission fluid flush, spark plugs and wires replacement, power steering fluid flush, and fuel additives. I just bought the car, so this engine is extremely new to me. I have service manuals and such, so I'll re-post my results for anyone else that could this information after I try your ideas. Thanks again.

You guys are great. Remove Idle Air Control Valve and found trash and carbon buildup. Cleaned with carb spray. Removed throttle body and found a larger than normal amount of carbon buildup, but not extreme. Also cleaned with carb spray and soft bristle brush. After that, the vibration went 99% away. Had to adjust idle up just a hair, enough to raise the it about 30-40 RPM's. Still have a few small adjustments and tweaks to get it running at optimum performance.
Just a little side info...I spent about 5 days online searching forums and internet sites. This one, in my opinion, has the best advice and covers more problems.
Thanks again ya'll.

I had a 88lxi with the same problem. I replaced a cracked driver's side motor mount but it did not take away all of the steering wheel shake at idle.
A dirty IACV causes vibration, shaking, irratic idle on many honda/acuras.
This thread should have a sticky.
