Default 1987 honda crx si engine swap?

hey guys im looking at putting a jdm d15b vtec engine (http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_en...W/3-Stage_VTEC)) in my honda crx si (1987) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CR-X) it has a d15b2 (non vtec) in it that has 312,000 miles on it. i know the engine might take a little work but it should fit (reasurance would be great!!!!) but my main question is the transmission. will it fit onto that engine. I will replace the trasmission with a new one but i may have to ride it out on the old one for a little bit. (if i go slow and dont jump on it it should be ok right?) so will it fit the jdm engine? and is there anything in that kit i might need thats not there? (or on the engine now)

all the 88+ d series trans will work on 88+ d series motors. there are a few exceptions, but yours should work. you'll just have to switch the flywheel/clutch assembly. that's all i can really assist you with..

i assume that you have custom mounts already to fit the d15b2? the 87 Si came with a d15a3..

You can make anything "fit," all it takes is fabrication skills. Right now there is not commerically available engine mounts to put the 88+ engine/tranny combination into a '87 or earlier Civic/CRX. If you have fabrication skills you could weld up your own engine mounts to make it work.

I would rather go with what is commercially available. HASport sells a set of engine mounts to put a B series into your old Honda. AS the B series engines are well supported in the aftermarket, I would go that route.

That is cool... but the D15 is not very well supported in the aftermarket. B and K series are where the performance parts are.

true. if anything the new SOHC vtecs have been getting some decent support compared to what they used to.
