Default 1979 Accord Project: Bondo Mobile

Figured you guys would enjoy this too so heres a worklog of a car belongs to a friend of mine that I'm working on at the moment. I'm too lazy to describe **** so I figured the PICS would do the talking :D

I know he better off with a cleaner shell but finding a better condition like this one for cheap (even if you could find one!) is gonna be a huge PITA.

Honestly the condition isn't that bad. I've seen worse with bunch of rust spots but this one is actually pretty clean minus the shoddy repair/bondo work which I'm gonna sort them out obviously!

I'm gonna strip them to the bare metal, replacing bunch of broken/missing parts with NOS ones and doing some tastefully done mods while we're at it :D

Aha they probably wouldn't look as bad once dropped :p But it has too much offset and simply looks ehhh. I'll definitely convince the owner to replace them haha

I don't know, dude. Those wheels are too "new" looking for that car. The style and size both scream out "CHANGE ME!!!" to me. Either way, I'm sure the car will turn out to be a looker.

Looks like it might have been a practice car from some highschool shop class...

Good luck with the project, very cool to be restoring a classic Honda.

I would like to do the same, but I think it'll just be cheaper to maintain mine till it becomes a classic.

Thanks for sharing.

What colour is it going to be painted?

Those are rather good looking cars - I really like the front with the 4 round head lights. Wheels look fine to me.

Good luck with this project!

Well I haven't updated this thread in a while.

Some pics of the progress so far:

Sent the car off to get the rust fixed as I couldn't weld myself. Lost quite a bit of pics of the fixed metal but here are some after pics

Same ol bs, bondo, sand, bondo, sand, add more bond, sand, repeat. I did this for months!

This is retarded!

I didn't get this welded because they were asking too much to get it right. Plus finding a really good shop to do it here is just impossible so I've decided to attack them with fiberglass instead. Not the best way to do it but done correctly, it would outlast any ****/half-assed weld jobs thats for sure.

This is what I'm trying to avoid. The **** was that really?!

All cut exposing the hidden rust holes

NOT FUN!

I've cut the whole rusted pieces, but no pics for some reason >.> Believe me I did not just slap some fiberglass over them!

Some bondo action over sanded/shaped fiberglass

Primered

More sanding required thats for sure.

Worst door among them all. The other 3 is pretty straight which is a good thing (Y)

Also picked up new wheels for it

15x8 +15 TrakLite Crossthreads. Gonna be fun to get them fit behind the fenders properly!

Also, I really need to get welder grrr

Since first generation Civic/Accord came with rather unusual bolt patterns for its wheels in 4x120 I had to convert them to 4x100 before I could fit anything else than the stock wheels or some rather rare aftermarket stuff made in 4x120

81 Civic (2nd gen) front hubs and rear drums

2g Civic hubs pressed into the stock Accord knuckles

How they looked like stock:

Ignore my jackstands :p

EF 9" brakes

Coilover hack

They're from a 90s Lancer if you guys are wondering. Grinded the bottom mounts off so it would slid into the stock knuckles.

Not your typical moar low job

ZOMG ZOMG ITS ON THE GROUND!!

Stupid thing is already maxxed out on the fronts fml. I haven't touched the rears yet so don't worry about that :p

Should be ready for paint by next week I hope!

Lots of work, keep it up. in it to see the final outcome! Good idea with the front coilovers, i sent off payment not to long ago for the new bc 2gen civic coilovers. Seeing yours dropped in the front makes me anxious for mine. Gl with the project!

Awesome update! I'm glad to see this is still going. Also, that front stance looks pretty great as it is.
