Yeah I intend to start a build thread soon. My car has been completely stripped back to a bare shell and I left it in to the bodyshop yesterday to get it fully prepped for paint. Hopefully I should have it back in about a month and I can start rebuilding everything then!

That's frustrating Neko, can see why you would be annoyed. I have been trying to purchase some valve guides for mine. Ortmann doesn't have any in stock...and can't give a production date! Is your work done on the 800 covered under warranty of any kind? Hope it is, cheers Paul.

Amazing pictures Neko, both of the automobiles and the changing architecture of the neighborhoods. I really enjoyed this post. Can I recommend a future visit that other S600/S800 would surely enjoy. The place I speak of is Garage Iwasa, an amazing restoration shop of our beloved S600/S800's. I hope to be able to visit Japan someday soon and would love to visit places like this garage, if only in pictures.

A friend was the purchaser. I do not have the storage space. Notably too as the S500 has long passed from a drivable classic, to one priced purely for the collector market. Fully restored, we're looking at in excess of 7 million yen these days... Neko

Some oil smoke still happening after sustained high-speed, or high-rpm runs. So we're looking closely at the valve guide clearances - no seals unfortunately. I am contemplating modifying the brass guides to support the installation of new style seals. There's a few simple tools to assist I know. We'll see however how this valve rebuild goes, as notably it appeared to be only Nr.2 with a leak...

No other upgrades; just fixing the oil smoke, a minor suspension tweak (perhaps with some Spread Tool height adjusters), and fix a gear selector problem.
Those things, and finish the hazard switch relocation I started months ago! I get to look at old photographs in the mean time...

Love the urban pictures with your S800, as usual. The excellent looking white coupe appears somewhat naked without fender mirrors, but I love the minilite wheel look. What kind of height adjustment can one expect with the Spread Tool adjusters out of curiosity? And are these just front suspension adjusters?

Thanks! The white coupe is French, and has just a door mirror (one). The Spread Tool adjusters are just the front torsion bar arms that have a bolt like a 911 to adjust the height. Unlike the four position flats on the OEM.
I will try and scan the range of adjustment for both, but I think the Spread Tool solution covers at least the equivalent of one full spline on the torsion bar itself. When fitted too, I can report!

Ok thanks, if those are the same product shown on Spread Tools site currently I believe the adjustment is 50mm/1.96".
I made a small order through Spread Tool, the process went smoothly, and I'm anxious to receive these parts.

Speaking of Spread Tool, I was driving home on the weekend, in near monsoon rain too, and my accelerator cable broke:
The steel corroded through at the join to the lead tab. Spread however sent me a new one in overnight to the door:
Looks nice, so there's a weekend job. The hazard switch relo process concluded too. Old hole under the dash, for the most inconvenient place to use regularly:

Not sure if throttle cables are like clutch cables in 911 - consumable items, but they are not too expensive, just \8000 or so delivered.
Regardless, an S can however be driven with a piece of string through an open window into the open engine compartment, tied onto the throttle lever between the middle set of carburetors. At least for a few km of Yamate-dori...
As to the Remove Before Flight tag, it is there for a reason - the peg on the choke **** is used to hold it out for the short start cycle, then of course it needs to be removed for driving. Supposedly, the S should be started with the choke, but warmed up on fast idle at 3000rpm or so for a minimum of three minutes. Neko

Funny Neko you should mention using a string to the carb. linkage, I've had to do that to a '59 Sprite that decided to eat it's linkage late one night. Lot's of strange looks from passing cars, Lol!

My first string throttle was a VW Beetle, remarkably effective! In investigating a bumper iron rattle, I discovered my mounting hardware was a bit suspect:
So, off the bumper came. Clean up mounts, get new fixing bolts, fix some of the surface rust and straighten some of the irons...
