Re: (Dirtyman)
I chose not to install the flashing red LED for my alarm. The way I see it, as long as my car hasn't been cased for a while, if a thief walks up thinking getting into my car is going to be a breeze, as soon as he taps the window the alarm is going to go off and hopefully catch him off guard. I know it saved me at a movie theater in Ohio. He tried getting in through the top of the window where the little nub is. He left a scratch and chipped the glass but didn't get any further than that.
As for the truck bed, I wonder if you went the way of air ride and dropped the car to the ground everytime you parked. I don't see that one moving very easily or quietly!

I hear window tint has the opposite effect. Like when you got %5 tint, ppl think ur "hiding something". You can't hide from a good thief, they're so fukin stupid yet so fukin smart???

Re: (shaundrake)
I read your doc very good Shaundrake. I have heard of it
I have heard Boomerang/Lojack Early Warning system is good for those that want to know when it gets towed or get moved without your authorization.
You can get a GPS system as well to track where your car is (such as Viper/DEI GPS). Set up a geofence so if it moves, you can know via email/sms/phone.
There are tons of products and ideas out there. Just put them all on
-aoib0t, who hopes everyone gets more protection for their car. It's so necessary.

Maybe that's DEI's modified version of their BlackJax system.
I know if you have a BlackJax system, and you get car jacked, let them take it and if they don't know the codes, the car pulses down around the corner.
You should be able to hear your car around the corner. If not, maybe install a GPS system, call the system, and it will tell you where it is.
Don't post your layers on this forum. You're just asking for potential thieves to take notes on your car.

Re: (AoiGSR)
Most alarms these days have "vehicle recovery". If your door opens when the engine is running, you have to input a code through the valet switch or remote within 15 seconds or else the engine shuts down and wont start up again. My alarm has three types of vehicle recovery. Car jack this, bitch.
As for protection from being towed, I'd like to try this product:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...sting
The "alpha lock wheel boot". Unfortunately my research budget is $0. They might still be able to drag your locked wheels onto a flatbed. But will they? There's that guy with the parking enforcement wheel lock in his avatar, that's pretty badass. Been fighting back the itch to let my g/f taze the car and see what happens.
In either case, just because something isn't 100%, doesn't mean it isn't enough. I highly doubt any car that I've fortified will ever get stolen. Not that it can't be stolen, just that it wont. Don't let fatalists discourage you. They're just justifying their own inaction.
My **** wont get stickied. HT politics. That's what I get for tolerating homosexuals. Everything here is *** this, gay that. Just like how it was with racial epithets before the civil rights era. Not that I want to turn this into a political forum; but just look at what happens when someone uses the n word. That's all I want to see. Instead I get persecuted all over this ****. Ah well, there's other forums. *soapbox

Re: (my_slow_civic)
Alarms are nice, and may scare a noob thief... and low jack type things are nice because you can find you car... if your area has the service...
But nothing beats a solid garage, and keeping your ride looking stock... Probably the only things you can do short of a 24hr guard to keep your ride from being stolen or broken into.

How do backup batteries for alarms work? Are they easy to access? Can thieves cut the battery under the hood, and get to the backup quick? And for alarms with 2 way pagers, cant they destroy the part that transmits to your pager?

Re: What are you guys doing to prevent theif.... seriously. (spoon.eg)
I'm using a Clifford Intelliguard 6000, kinda old but gets **** done. So i'm hearing a lot about the magical powers of a tow truck. I'm wondering, can't you just turn your steering wheel all the way to one side? Ofcorse this doesn't matter if they pull from the front, but most of use park front first. So they would have to pull the car from the back. So how would they tow the car if the wheels ain't straight?

Here you go. Was on eBay and found this. Its a tow sensor that detects vertical lift for towing/jacking.

For one, the thief would **** their pants, I guarantee it, no one expects that. For two, not even the most jaded of people would not look at a sudden sharp sound like that...</TD></TR></TABLE>
We were thinkin alike, because a few days ago I had the exact same idea. Especially if you could get a loud *** horn from a dump truck or something. Although then you need some compressed air... not sure if CO2 would make it run long enough. If you had air ride then you'd be set.

Re: (spoon.eg)
Alarms don't allways work.... I'm thinking of other simple trix.. simple cheap alarm and away to rig my hazards or install strobe lights in the head/tail lights to the ignition with hidden on off switch, cops will definitely pull you over quick for that.... So if a thief manages to steal your car he will never knoe the strobe lights are blinking all you have to do is remember to turn it off and if he tries to get it at night he still gotta find away to turn it off...imagine the look on the thieves face when the cop pulls him over for it
Just because you got the best security system someones allways gonna find away to get around it unless its one of a kind... low tech works just as good and not break the bank

Re: (JLaccord)
Two trains of thought behind your theory. First there is your theory. Second, there is the theory about visual deterents. If a thief comes up to two identical vehicles and one has a visual deterent and one doesn't, which car is he going to try to break into first? There is no right or wrong decision regarding install of LED's, but I prefer the later senario and use visual deterents. I also think it makes the idiots who break into cars for contents think twice.
