Default Speakers blown, replacement suggestions?

I have a 1993 honda accord with alipne 9805 HU and alpine type-r 6.5 2-ways in the front. One of the rear speakers is blown so I think it's time that I can afford to buy new ones. I am going to move the type-r's to the rear, so I think I'll put components in the front unless I am suggested not to. Now the question is, if I put components in the front should I amp them? I haven't looked into the ICE scene in a while, who are the major producers for speakers and amps? Is MB quart still a decent name?

Also, I feel that I can complete the install myself, but I am having a problem sliding out the HU. It is stuck in place. If I am looking at having a shop install, how much would they charge approximately.

Thanks.

I don't know how the H/U is installed on the older Accords. Check out install dr and see if they say how to get it out. Have you made sure it isn't bolted in though? I'd have to look at it to tell you as I can't remember how they are in that car. As for speakers I would for sure power them with a amp if you are going with components. They shouldn't be run off a H/U imo. I have a Alpine MRP-F450 amp in my truck which is 70w X 4 RMS at 4 ohms. I'm running a set of Polk DB components up front and a set of Polk DB coaxials in the rear and it sounds really good for the money. I'm a big fan of Polks ever since I used a set of 6x9 Momo's in a past truck. I wanted the Momo's in this truck but I think it would have taken some custom work I didn't want to do to get them to fit in the front unless I put them in the kick panels and stuff. They were too tall. The DB's were but they were close enough I could easily make them fit the momo's weren't.

I also have a set of Alpine 6x9's in my older Honda that sound pretty decent. I'd probably look into polks or maybe type r's.

MB Quartz stuff seems to be okay as far as speakers. I've heard a few not as good things about the amps but nothing really bad just that they aren't the best out there.

I'm a bigger fan of Diamond Audio if going with a brand like that. I still think Polks or Alpines are a better deal for the money though. Thats just my opinion.

What model of 93 Accord, DX/LX, coup, EX/SE coup, wagon, EX/SE wagon?

If the HU was installed properly it will have a back brace supporting the back of the HU, it is what is preventing the HU from being removed... http://www.installdr.com/Insta...3.pdf

93 Accords used 5.25", standard 6.5" and 6"x9" speakers depending on model.

A properly installed/fitting speaker is critical to the speakers performance.

If your Accord has 6.5" front and back then I would l move the Type R 2ways to the rear and disable the tweeters, find a set of components for the front, [like the Type Rs] find an amp that will make about 4x125W RMS into 4 ohms, [Alpine Type R speakers are 100W continuous, [2way] and 110W continuous, [2way component].

A very good amp for this would be the JL Audio 450/4 2x150W RMS for the front and 2x75W RMS for the rear fill.

Keep in mind, Honda/Acura use standard 6.5" speakers, the Alpine Type R speakers are an over-sized 6.5" speaker, the main diff. being the mounting hole diameter, all standard 6.5" speakers use a 5" diameter mounting hole, over-sized 6.5" speakers use bigger then a 5" diameter mounting hole and they vary from brand to brand, even from model to model.

Obviously something was done to fit the Type R 2ways into the stock door locations, [5-5/16" mounting diameter] also mounting depth will be an issue, stock is 2" the Type Rs need 2.5".
The mod can be as simple as a 1/2" spacer with a 5/16" bigger hole in it, or a complicated as a custom MDF speaker housing to replace the stock plastic one. [best way]. 94

93 accord lx sedan.

i did the HU and speaker install. I assume I did everything correct, but I am sure that they are 6.5's in the front. I think the type-r's sound great, but I thought that MB quart was the top notch. I am looking into alpine and polk's now. I am on onlinecarstereo.com unless there are better sites.

I really need to read up on the electrical parts of this configuration but I lack the time so I really appreciate your suggestions on amps and speakers. I'd really like to amp wahtever i get, is it possible that I could hang an amp from the back deck in the trunk? As far as the HU goes, I am going to give it another try. You know the little clips on the outside of the faceplate? Well one of those wont pull down. When I put in my RCA-cable input, i tore apart the dash to get back there (my dad has small hands and helped me install it). However I dont think that I will be able to install amp cables that way.

Another problem is that the HU heats up for no reason. I think this may be a ground problem, but I am not sure. It has worked fine for 5 years now despite the fact that the faceplate becomes unbelievably hot.

However this must be done before I go back to MA from school, last thing i want is a 6 hr drive with shitty speakers. My goal is to keep the car for another 5 years (only 64k on it). So the stereo upgrade is worth is (I have long drives from home to school).
