Moving headunit to cup holder slot (96-98)
I would like to move my head unit to the lower compartment right above the cup holders in my 98 Coupe. I removed the cup holder assembly and removed the tape deck. The problem is is that my head unit is to tall and does not fit into the bracket if I push it through the front or back. I am curious, do you need specific head units for this or is mine just not for it?
I have a Pioneer DEH-P670MP.

I filed the opening to fit the radio when I did one and just extended the wire down a little. But the car that I worked on did not have the tape feature on the bottom. Just take your time an file the opening to fit the cage or casing that the radio lock into. After your done flip the cup holder lid up and you could barely tell there's a radio.

A DEH-P670MP is a single din radio just like any other. In fact, it's probably smaller than a factory radio, and you can fit one of those down there just dandy.
Are you, for some reason, trying to wedge the fascia in the gap as well?
Here's mine on the daily. It fits just DANDY.
