Go get yourself a DEI Viper two-way viper alarm and a GPS tracking system... as soon as i get my 95 teg done i will be getting that setup..... i got kicked out of my apartment parking lot....... sucks........ DEI stuff comes with lifetime warranty and you dont have to go to the place where you got your things installed. you can go to any viper dealer. if i were you i wouldnt put swapmeet quality alarm in my car.. oh GPS tracking system is pretty sweet... check it out at directed.com

id say anything with a 2 way pager. most ppl hear a car alarm and dont even care, but if you have a pager it alerts you when ur alarm is goin off and you can grab the nearest clubbing object, run out to ur car, and beat the **** out of some thieves

about the viper....how does the remote start work with a manual...does it actually work or just sits there with no use...i dont really want a remote start anyway but i was just wondering...
also is the lcd remote thing really huge that it would bother me in my pocket...from the picture it looks somewhat bigger than others i have seen.

remote start on a manual tranny is not very smart, if you accidently remote start it while its in gear then uhm ya, your car isnt just gonna start its engine, its gonna start flying off
#13
lol, could you imagine a car that started in first gear on a remote start?? Like some dork's car is in a huge parking lot when he pushes the button? It'll crank and crank, maybe even starting his car IN FIRST GEAR, making it zoom across the parking lot until the nearest object it crashes into stops it ... haha ...
If I had a 5-speed, I would NOT put a remote starter in it. And even if I did, I would install a switch into the stick so that the starter would know when it's neutral.

i have remote start in my car and i don't drive a ***** *** automatic. its not a problem unless you're an idiot and leave it in gear. all it really allows you to do i warm up your car. if you press on the brake pedal, it turns off the car. you still have to insert the key into the ON position to drive. oh and it also has a built in turbo timer as well.

Watch the video in that site. Anyone can buy a code garbber can disarm any alarms. Sound scary.

Re: looking in to get a car alarm for my teg..suggestions??????????????? (BLUEberryYUMyum)
* sigh *...The millionth post on what type of alarm should I get.
Since no two people have the same needs and uses here is a guide
that should cover all the bases. This may end up being a long reply .
1. Do you want to protect the car,its contents or both?
2. Will more than one person be operating the car?
3. What is the area like where I live, work and travel between ?
4. If it where possible and cool what what I want to do by remote control?
5. If I travel can I get help if a problem arises?
A. A 'decent' level of security will have this:
- doors,trunk/hatchs,hoods will trigger the alarm if opened. ( fuel doors and
glove boxes are smart choices...with fuel prices and identity theft on the rise)
- a fused flashing light circuit ( major brands have this covered..but I have come
across systems that are lacking in this dept.)
- some type of immobilization circuit. It will keep an unathorized user from starting
the vehicle. Will disable starter, ignition, fuel systems ( or multiples of above)
- some type of noise maker...siren or horn. ( or multiples)
- will have a seperate brain/electronics from its horn/siren. ( Once again the all
in one units are not as popular as they were but they still do exist)
- Will offer the basics of keyless entry ( if the car came equipped with power
locks from the factory...why fumble the the keys after you disarm the system)
B. Now to kick it up a notch... :
- add a backup battery or siren..if main power is interupted the system will trigger
and have a power source for about 12-16 hrs.
- add air horns or stobes to your car. Remember the more attention the better.
- add an audio sensor ( glass breakage),/tilt motion sensor or dual zone radar
sensor..or multiples. These sensors give you an added layer of security.
- add a decoy. I take defective product and place it where the typical person
would expect to find an alarm...while the real one is well hidden in the vehicle
( I call these Trojans )
Now for the truly paranoid :...you know who you are...
- add gps tracking service. That way you know every place you car is.
- Get a 2 way alarm system. Okay granted the long range systems are great..
if you out shopping and have parked way away from the stores entrance
(ie:xmas ) and its to hot or cold out. But seriously I dont need to know that
my alarm is going off ( thats its job)...plus what am i gonna do if I see someone
screwing with it anyway? Why risk life/limb or worse end up in jail or sued by the
roach because he had a better lawyer or I went 'overboard' in the protection of my
property?
- get those wheel clamps, autolocks and the like.
- remove ecus, fuses and such to disable the car.
Hope this helps

installing remote starters in a manual tranny is no problem, as long as its meant for that.
and if you want a QUALITY alarm, look no further then the CLIFFORD concept series.. or the avantguard5(buit in turbo timer option)
2 way alarms are retarted. 2 way is only good for remote starting so you actually know the car is running.... i've been installing for over 4 years and have never had anyone prevent or do anything with a break in attempt when they had a paging system... **** gets jacked either way. why let it ruin your night... just deal with it and move on....
and i've installl ALL types of systems, bulldog, crimstopper, compustar, code alarm, dei, Clifford, and out of all of them, the best system out there by far is clifford. and not their cheap stuff.... look at the arrow5 and up
