Default Info need on how to wire my sub/amp correctly

Hey guys,

I really don't know much about all this electrical stuff. I just know I need to match up my RMS (500) as close as possible when looking for an amp.

I have an old Alpine type R SWR 1042D and I'm looking for the cheapest amp possible as this is just going in my DD.

I'm looking at this amp:
Amazon Amazon

I'm confused on the Ohms part. Apparently, I can wire my sub at 4 to 1 Ohms but is there any advantage from wiring one or the other? The amp is rated at Max power 2 ohm 1500W X 1
RMS power 4 ohm 600W X 1. So, that means is I have to wire my sub at 4 Ohms?

Here's the specs on my sub:

Power Handling
Power Range: 200 - 500 Watts
RMS Power Handling: 500 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 1500 Watts

Here's the specs of the amp I want:

2 Ohm Stable Mono-Block
Variable low pass crossover: 40-150Hz
Fixed high pass crossover (200Hz)
Variable 0 to +18dB Bass Boost
Variable input gain control
Max power 2 ohm 1500W X 1
RMS power 4 ohm 600W X 1

That amp won't do anywhere near the power required for that sub.

You have a dual 4 ohm sub, so it can be wired to either 2 ohms or 8 ohms.
This is what you need

Thanks for the help and suggestion on the amp. But could you clarify a bit? So my 1042d will not be able to be wired at 4 Ohms and ONLY at 2 or 8 Ohms?

How about this amp? Planet audio is pretty cheap on amazon.. this one is only $70. But it says 1100watts @ 2ohms. If my sub is wired at 2 ohms, would this be over kill?

RMS Power Rating:
2 ohms: 1100 watts x 1 chan.

you'll be disappointed in any amp that is not CEA compliant. they could have said that 70 dollar amp did 5000 watts and 2 ohm just to trick people. remember, you get what you pay for. if you end up with a cheaper amp, youll probably be diapointed in the power output and jack up the gains and bassboost to get your desired amount of output. if you dont know, the gains on the amp match the voltage of the decks output thru the RCA's. when you jack the gains up it becomes a VERY dirty signal (distortion, clipping etc.) and your woofer WILL die very soon. invest a little to get a stronger amp that can give clean power.

for your budget being low i would recommend something like this

its a little more, but im sure you'll be satisfied with the clean bass it can put out

You may wanna spend a ill more on a better amp, also are u doing dual or single sub setup? My type R Was pushing off a 500/1 JL audio amp at 2 ohms in my civic and hit really nice.
Watch out for those really cheap amps bc if u get them and hook it up garuntee that u gonna end up damaging the amp and sub and wasted ur money
