Honda Wheel Locks: How easily can a thief defeat these?
These are the Honda Accessories wheel locks that requires a key for removal. Can a thief easily defeat these if he doesn't have the key? How do these compare with aftermarket "anti-theft" lug nuts?

Hmm...they look like the "typical' lock set. I vaguly remember crooks
taking vise grips and hammers to these to lossen them up. My advice would
use 2 sets on each wheel and replace a set the first time the key slips when you
are trying to remove the lock. These are normally high mantainence items...and
have been known to fail at all the wrong times ie emergency tire changes.

wheel locks are easy to break off, thiefs can just take a socket that almost fits around the lock, and just hammer it on the lock, and it will come off when they try to loosen it.

I haven't had trouble with wheel locks. I've owned several sets. It's better than nothing I suppose.

ive known plenty of thieves in SD..and locks really wont prevent anything...ive heard that owning a few sets...maybe 2-3 sets help a lot...and about having honda locks...dont worry, thieves have all the keys to these...its not hard to come up with one...if not...thieves will go out and spend the money to buy honda locks just to own the key..then they can go jack practically any honda out there...
but yeah, honda locks are okay, it doesnt help much but it slows them down...

Okay guys heres some knowledge.. I worked in a tire shop for a year and I learned some things about wheel locks. They are a good "deterrent" and will keep the theives from an "easy removal." Unfortuantely if you have some nice wheels and they want them bad enough they WILL take them. You can buy sockets (we used them in the shop) to remove even locks. They just go over the lug (or lock) and you turn them until they stop.. Then you turn them the other way and....... bye bye wheels. Sorry, but that is the truth! I would recommend using locks as I have stated, they are just a good deterrent..

very true. anyone who wants something bad enough is gonna get it, by either stealing it or working for it the hard way. here is a pic of my wheel. would you bother trying to steal it if you were a theif?

Matco Tools or snap on tools sells a universal wheel lock kit that will remove ANY OEM Wheel lock... its $125 for the kit... So a thief can spend $125 on that kit, and then get themselves $10,000 in wheels with it...
There is also something called a "Soft Lock" where what it is, is a socket made of soft metal... What you do is, you hammer it onto the lock, and it forms to the lock... the you take that lug off, and the lock is now shaped to remove the rest of them... They only last for removing like 25 lugs though, then they disintegrate.

The OEM Honda wheel locks are made by McGard (at least they used to be) Like everybody else said, it's better than having nothing. I bought mine a week after I got my car.

Wheels arent too hard to steal, like some people said, hammer is a few times and the wheel lock comes off. My neighbor had his accord rims stolen, eventho he had 3different sets of wheel locks on, ONE honda and others were random aftermarket *****.

just to let you know, I was told by mcgard (sp) that the wheel locks should NOT be used as a lug nut, but only a lock. so don't put on more then 1. take the info as u please. could be wrong could be right, just passin the info

Just make sure your car is slammed so low, they can't get a jack under it. J/K. If theives want to have them, they will get them. Something is better than nothing though.

Like its been said already, If they want it bad enough ,they will take it. Doesnt matter what type of locks or wheels or whatever you put on them. Thats how life is you cant do nothin about it unless you are the theif.

Re: (Sephiroth)
How about wiring a mercury switch to your car alarm that'll detect your car being lifted. (If at all feasible)
Or else, wire up your rim to a battery source and BAM! Zap Crackle Pop! j/k But it would be cool...

hey but the wheel lock removal kits require an air hose, for the best results. The set that i have doesnt even scratch the wheel locks, i think its the snap on.Id just get some aftermarket locks, that arent the standard fitting and removal.U konw like even the other lugs have a differant pattern on them so u have to use a tool for each one!
