Hey guys, I just recently got an Alpine CDE-9846 Link, and I want your opinions on what would be a good amp/subwoofer combo. Let me give you an idea of what I have to spend, and what I'm looking for:

1) I have about $300 to spend TOTAL, this includes an enclosure for the sub.
2) I do not want boom boom, I want excellent sound quality. I listen to mostly rock and some non-progressive techno. I repeat NO BOOM BOOM, sound quality is the priority.
3) I don't know a lot about amps, so something that doesn't draw too much power, doesn't get too hot, and has low low low distortion.
4) Oh yeah, and it has to be 100% compatible with that head unit. Link

I am asking for your personal opinions. When you suggest a product, please state why you chose it, and if that product has any enthusiast legends. (In other words, headphones enthusiasts all say that Grado SR-60s are some of the best headphones under $150, and the company is an amazing company, so they reccomend those headphones for beginning enthusiasts.)

Not trying to be a dick but i think you should save up a little more than $300 for equipment if you want excellent sound quality.

check out some memphis amps and subs. there not to much but you might spend a lilltle more than you want to.

Budget setup - Alpine mrpm350. Diamond Audio d310d4 (10") woofer.

Build a box yourself if you're capable. I would have told you to do an 8 in that setup, but realistically I don't think it would be enough for you.

how about a alpine type r...they run for a little less then 100 per sub and have awesome SQ...i have 2 12in type r wire down to 1 ohm and it gets pretty loud but at the same time has really good SQ

I second the Alpine Type Rs they get really loud in any enclosure.
Also u could try Elemental Designs really cheap and sound awesome.

If you look around and go with one sub you could probaby get something going. Its not going to rock the world, but hey you said it in your post your not trying to. Look around and do some shoping, For that amount look into getting last year models, alot of companies are blowing them out for this year stuff.

I'm interested in their 13Kv.2 and their NINe.2 amp. I'd be more than happy to build the enclosure... I love building stuff. Does anyone have an idea of what this would sound like with my deck?

^ deck's for the most part don't make a huge difference in sound (for your sub at least) apart from voltage outputs and crossovers.

Short answer - that should sound great

I personally would suggest a bazoka tube jus cause as u said u don't want a lot of bass and have a small budget. I think it would be sutied for your particular needs and is a reasonable price.

bass tubes are useless. a good set of 6x9s will hit harder. i 2nd the elemental designs. check out their webpage. very clean, classy, no-nonsense well engineered stuff. seems to be built along the same philosophy as alpine headunits. not showy, just well made. as for the sub, depending on how much oomph you want, you can get away with a really nice 8. maybe shop for a used sub/box together, and get that amp new from Edesigns.

I went to Tweeter Etc and listened to two setups, both had the same head unit, amp and speakers. The difference is the enclosure.

Head unit: not sure, it was a flipdown face and looked pretty pimp
Amp: some JL amp that was putting out around 250 watts
Speakers: not sure on the model, but dual 10"

The sealed enclosure sounded SO crisp and clean, way better than the ported enclosure. Now I think I'm going to get two 11Kv.2s. Yum!

sweet! yeah a ported box will probably allow for more excursion and low-end resonance, while the sealed box will give tighter response. you're gonna be very happy with your setup.

A ported box can sound just as crisp as a sealed box but takes a lil more work in the build.
But from what i have seen the EDs sound better in sealed box.Either way u cant go wrong.Good Choice.
