Default 8" Speakers! Will They "Complete' My System? Whats a descent brand? Fit a Crx?

Im trying to get my 88 Crx si on the road again and Ive just bought a partial system for it, consists of a panasonic mp3 never deck with 50 x 4, I also have a set of infinity kappa 6.5 220w speakers brand new with crossovers

For my amp I have a kicker 4 chaneel 400.1, came remanufactured with a sticker that said real power is 769 or something

Now I dont know much about systems cause ive been out of them for a while but my last one in this car, was just some 6.5's and a huge 12" sub and some big amps

Now im looking for something that will still fit in the back speaker location (I have brackets I can modify I mean depth wise they have to fit. Im pretty sure what Im looking for is an 8" speaker

I dont want to hear just high pitched treble anymore, I would like my music to feel real. Please tell me how I can do this

I need to know what to search for and such on ebay, having a hard time getting search results, dont know which brands are good or how high i have to go

Thanks

I'll let you know in a week or 2, I'm about to do the same thing. good set of 6.5 components and an 8inch sub, all running off of a 5 channel amp.

look at a JL 8w7 or another one of their 8" subs. also look at elemental designs stuff. they have some 8s, but also have some 6.5 subs, plus they are inexpensive

The Kicker ZX400.1 and the KX400.1 are 1ch., [mono block] amps 200W rms into 4 ohms and 400W rms into 2 ohms.
Kickers 4ch. amps are designated with a (.4), check the model number again.

I assume you want to install speakers in the stock locations and not run a sub box.

The oem stock speakers are "standard" 6.5" although a larger speaker can be installed with some custom work.

There are more then a few 6.5" and over-sized 6.5" and 8" mid-bass drivers to pick from, from Kicker, [SSMB6 and SSMB8] 8" subs, [L7 8, L5 8, CompVR 8 and comp 8.

From Alpine over-sized 6.5" mid-bass, [SPX-17MB]

From JL Audio 8" subs, [8W7, 8W3v2 and 8W0] and 6" sub, [6W0].

From elemental design a 6.5" "MidLFE Driver", [Eu-700], 8" sub, [9Kv.2].

The list goes on and on... http://www.google.com/search?s...+subs 6.5" subs
http://www.google.com/search?s...2subs 8" subs. 94

The amp is a kicker KX 650.4

Sorry I didnt even know that

You say I can fit an 8" speaker into the stock rear 6.5" bracket? I dont mind cutting up the bracket and enlarging it, but I dont know what will fit depth wise and what will be to heavy and break the plastic

can you recomend a few 8"? Im not lookin for big huge bass, just something to make the music sound good, but I would like to be able to push the stereo to 90% volume without it distorting and clipping and such

I just done know what to look for in an 8" sub. Would any generic brands like pyramid on ebay work?

Thanks

Im pretty sure I wanna just run my infinity kappa's and a set of 8's in the rear location, is it possible? Will it still sound good?

An enclosure would definitely be a necessity if you want decent bass from your speakers. There is actually a surprising amount of room behind the stock rear speaker mounts in a CRX, possibly .33 cubic feet or more. The only problem is that this area is oddly shaped, which will make building an enclosure difficult at best.

[wood] mount the 6.5" will sound even better, [including bass response], but as StorinMatt mentioned a cabinet is definitely the way to go for best results, and IMO not that hard, just a lot of work, fiberglass is your friend, that is what I have done with the 6.5" Eclipse I have in the stock rear locations of my 94 LS.

Would you mind posting pics of what you did in the rear location?? i have learned a ton from you and would like to see some pics of what my heads sees.
BTW: i have coaxials 6.5" infinity in the front and kappa 6x9 (with the crossover to the tweeter disconected for midbass) and 80 watts (supposely rms suplied by a power acoustik amp, which i think pushes something like 60rms in the real world) and i'm pretty happy with the setup, my only regret is that i didn't get something like zapco and a good set of components in the front.

Is an amp really nessecary? I think I may skip the amp, wont affect much for my setup with a set of infinity 6.5's and pioneer speakers would it?

i don't know what you really want (if the question was towards me) but if you don't want an amp then look for speakers with a good sensitivity (remember that for 3db more they need half the power to sound the same as another speaker with 3db less)

PS, sorry GZERO at this time I have no way of getting the 35mm prints I have of my install , [and 1000s of others] onto my PC.

4 Channel amp + lots of dynamat or enlosures (like fcm recommended) will have enough volumne and mid bass for most people.

Personally I'd run some 8" subs in the rear as opposed to full range speakers

Extensive Dynamating was also done to the doors.

The rear speakers are mounted in custom MDF and fiberglass cabinets, Dynamating was also done in the rear, but nowhere as extensive.

Both front and rear speakers are in the stock locations behind the oem grills, the tweeters on the rear speakers have been disabled, I have no subs or off board amps, the 4 Eclipse 6.5" 2ways are driven by the Alpine CDA-7893, except for a foot or so of 16ga speaker wire, [inside rear cabinets] all speaker wiring is oem, and except for a 10ga power wire running from the batt. to the Alpines constant power, [yellow] and a chassis to chassis ground the rest of the wiring is off the oem radio harness. the speakers are about 7 years old and the HU is about 4 years old. All are still working just fine. 94

like 4 years old.
I put kicker SSMB8"s in my friends RSX, he has midbass out the ***. In fact they are ran off of a kx650.4 and they sound great. I wanted to do the same thing with my CRX. If your going to do it, build boxes for the 8"s there is plenty of room in that back speaker area.

Your right on the shape being odd, but its more than a 1/3 of a cubic ft. the space goes into the wheel well, Id say there is about 1 cubic foot in there, I looked many times in my CRX when i was considering it.

The space back there is maybe eight inches by eight inches by one foot. This comes out to a little less than half a cubic foot. But when you consider the fact that you can't utilize all this space due to the odd shape and the thickness of the material from which you will make a box, .33 cubic feet is very realistic.
