Default Project Lola: DC5 Build by EJ1 Freak

I decided I might as well jump on the bandwagon and make a build thread instead of making random threads for each new project/mod! Haha

For those who don’t know my car or haven’t seen it, here is how she recently sat:

Addition of Volk LE37’s:

So several months ago I picked up full black interior for my car, minus the front seats and steering wheel. It’s all been sitting in my room because I was waiting on those two items plus I didn’t have the time to start the install…until now!

Yes I know…my tv is small! Haha

Last Sunday I spent several hours in the garage and made one trip to Sears for more tools and was then able to get a majority of the rear/side interior pieces taken out.

Before:

After:

After this I came to a stopping point, because I wanted to get the dash taken care of and realized I wouldn’t be able do it by myself. I forgot that I still needed a steering wheel so I made a little trip to Weksos on Saturday to pick one up! A big thanks to Adam, Collin and Kenneth for putting up with me while I was figuring out what I wanted! Haha

Decided to go with the Nardi 330 - Black perforated leather:

Saturday 5/10/08:

A friend came over to help with the dash but unfortunately we weren’t very productive. While trying to take the airbag off the steering wheel, one of the torx screws was stripped, so we couldn’t get it off. We tried a dremmel but that didn’t work, then tried drilling it out and that didn’t work, needless to say that stupid screw was a pain in the ***. After the drilling it was pretty loose, so we were able to pry it back and undo the screws holding it to the steering wheel. So much for salvaging it! Haha The next step was removing the steering wheel, which of course was a pain also! I rented a steering wheel puller from Kragen but that didn’t help at all. So my friend and I took turns pulling but it wasn’t budging…so we gave up for the night! 6 hours later and little to no progress is pretty disappointing.

Sunday 5/11/08:

Another friend came over and we attempted the steering wheel puller again, but it wasn’t making sense. Finally we gave up and decided to both pull at the same time. She got on one side and I got on the other, 10 and 3, and we kept pulling until it finally came off. I swear at that moment, music started playing and fireworks started going off! Haha Ok that didn’t really happen but it was that good of a feeling!

2 girls > 1 steering wheel haha

We spent some more time taking panels off the dash and lowering the steering column until she had to leave. I figured this would be a good time to finish removing the rear interior panels and installing the new ones!

Before:

After:

Finished Rear:

Looks like I may have to paint the upper side panels for now because it looks a bit odd next to the black panels! Tonight we are going to try to finish the dash so I’ll update more later tonight.

Oh and I have more parts to install also but those will happen after the interior swap!

I absolutely love the way your car sits. Pics do it no justice. The black interior swap will make it so much nicer, especially the cloth seats. Those leather seats can be a pain in the *** in the sun. I know you have a lot more planned out for the car and can not wait to see what else you do. You always make things look great

You know that they do have black upper side panels right? If you can't get a set, i'd suggest painting it atleast.

Black interior is gonna look hott on red

I didn't know that until last night! Everyone was telling me it's the same...searching ownz me I guess! Any suggestions on where to find them? I'd prefer to buy the actual piece instead of painting!

Update for tonight: We made quite a bit of progress in the last 3 hours! The dash is almost completely out, it just seems like it's held up in the middle by something but we couldn't figure it out! I'm going to look a little more online tomorrow to see what it might be! We should have no problem getting it completely out tomorrow....ugh!!!!
