Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
It's hard to get used to being able to drive around town at 40mph in 5th gear (LS 5th) and I can pass people without downshifting,
The gears are super short, which has been an interesting adjustment. The car pulls like wild at 2,000-5,000RPM, there's literally no need to go above 4,500RPM for any function of daily driving. The car moves around effortlessly, lol.
For autocross, the soft suspension is really holding the car back. I've got really sticky tires, but out of the corners I think a lot of the weight is being shifted to the rear and creates wheel spin coming out of the turns.
I'm still thinking I should go with the AMR setup with 550F and 450R with a larger rear sway as my next mod. The parts are all paid for, labor went on my 0% interest card
I'm really worried about my damn muffler. Knowing that I'm breaking sound limits at the track mean my car is really loud and that bothers me as I really don't want a loud car. Gotta get a solution figured out ASAP before next race. I can take it easy around town and not make much noise.
I'm still baffled by the fact the Si muffler has no sound absorbing material, explains the noise. And the 2" diameter is surely choking the 2.5" mandrel exhaust. If I can't get ahold of thermal this week (for whatever reason) I may just take my mechanic up on his offer of a vibrant street power 2.5" he's got new in the box at his shop. If that's not quiet enough (and I'd like it to be silent, lol) I'll add another resonator in the exhaust.

Exhaust is SUPER loud. Almost got disqualified at my local autocross event. It just screams in Vtec, the '06 Si muffler has 0 sound absorption material from what I understand. Definitely need a fix before the next race at the end of this month. Thermal better get back with me today sometime.
Also that swap looks super clean. It's almost like someone knew what they were doing

He's a super cool guy. Hoping I can make it over to his place Sunday to get my new brakes put on.

AWESOME! I might be PM'ing him some questions in the near future about my brake upgrade. Apparently I was sent DX knuckles instead of EX knuckles which is complicating things. But I won't threadjack

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
Finally found my camera battery charger:
Forgot to charge my camera, so all I got was my slowest lap
Lots to get used to with the new engine!!

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
It's too early to blame the tires. My entry/exit speeds are much faster now. Talking to a couple of SMF vets, upping the camber and stiffening the suspension would be a good place to start.
My car rolls too much to keep the tires optimal.

Took these shots after I noticed mostly everyone had left the grid area Sunday. This car generated quite a bit of talk during the event! I've ridden shotgun, both on course, and on the street. It's fast!

Damn that thing is quick! I remember seeing some of your other auto-x vids when you had the Y7,
and that thing launches now! That must be a great toy!
Seems like the swap went smoothly and was well done. Also, I think you have inspired many people!

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
Would anyone consider it be tacky to put my beautiful Thermal R&D tip on a flowmaster muffler? lol.
Looking into:

or

If I don't hear back from Thermal by tomorrow.

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
That's what I was going to do tom People talked me out of diluted simple green and I went full bore with this autozone stuff:
I just did it, using some other non-purple-power degreaser.
I'm going to anodize the intake and valve cover bronze, the water hose was apparently also too much for the VC paint
Also, looking into this muffler:
Called flowmaster, he recommended the dBx muffler:
http://youtu.be/MqeCfwUy7t8
He says it's probably the quietest thing period for imports that remains quiet/moderate. It's either that or a 50 series.
They're like $150 too >.>
People that reviewed them love it though: http://www.amazon.com/Hushpower-1251...3491751&sr=1-1

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
are we talking about engine cleaning? i can't find the original post.
i use a product called optimum power clean. it's citrus based but is NOT the same as a lot of the products on the market - the chemistry is much more complex. i use it for a lot of general detailing degreasing - the dilutions i regularly keep around are 1:1, 3:1 and 10:1. you spray the appropriate dilution on everything, agitate with various boar's hair brushes or the like, then have another adjustable spray bottle available to not only keep the areas moist while working on them and discourage drying but also to flood the areas once you are satisfied with the work that the cleaner has done.

Nice build!
And for my 2cents, anodizing is an electro-chemical process which essentially puts ink into the pores of the aluminum, and would be as durable if not more durable than powder paint.

Re: OMG LIBERTARIAT STARTS A BUILD
Paint would be temporary, I'll probably just leave it alone or paint it with some black engine enamel I've got downstairs. I've got red I think too. I'm still euphoric about the swap, having a chipped valvecover makes the engine look like it's not taken care of. Maybe it's just me.
I'll definitely eventually get the intake and VC anodized or powdercoated.
Once I get the minor tweaks/problems solved the next thing on my list is AMR coilovers and AMR camber kit.
