Default Mondos First Motor Build!

Been ordering parts over the last few months and doing a lot of reading to prepare my self for my first full build! Ill let the pics do all the talking.

I dont have a garage so it was either build it in my house where my black lab roams and risk getting dog hair on everything or in this little corner my Sister was nice enough to let me borrow in her home. She just moved in so ill get a lil more space then that once she clears things out.

The Corner.

75.5mm Bored/Honed D16z6 Block

Main Cap and Micro polished Crank

Oil Pump, Honda Bond and Belt Tensioner/Spring

OEM Bottom End Gasket Kit

Main/Rod Bearings, Thrust Washer, and Assembly Lube. Machine shop miced my crank and said that the bearings he ordered should work well with the crank. He gave me plastiguage too so i can be sure. He also stated that if i wasn't satisfied with the results after plastiguageing them i could return them and get my money back.

Eagle Rods

75.5mm Vitara Pistons with NPR rings

I'm really excited about this build that i don't know where to start! Time to read manual over a couple times before i bite the bullet as well as get tools for installing rings.

May need to notch the girdle some for the eagles but cant be sure till after i to a test assemble.

im stuck on my build! Cant find any info as to what Ring Gaps to run for a car that will be DD for a couple of months before seeing boost. Max hp i will ever run is 400 but im going to shoot for 160ish (low boost) to start with then slowly go up.

z6 block bored to 75.5 for 75.5 vitaras.

Any info would be great! Ive seen a few threads but no definite answers

Thanks!,

The pistons did no tell you what your ring gap should be?

Call the machine shop that did the boring and they may be able to tell you.

if those are forged pistons the gap piston to wall clearance sound be like .002 of an inch bigger bc the forged expand more when heated and might cause your pisons to wweld its self to the wall just FYI might not happen just so you knwo,

.002 of an in might not sound alot but when your dealling with an engine and precise gapping it is

Wouldn't be the first time

The fastest and most powerful vitara powered d series is 452whp and went 10.97 on stock sleeves. The second fastest is jfk and he is also on stock sleeves. The first ever 400hp vitara motor was also on stock sleeves.

If he's referring to the eagle rods, hes absolutely right. Eagle = Junk. But g/l on your build, nice to see people still do it themselves.

A little pointer for you to, stand your crank up or you can warp it.

Not Forged piston just treated to handle the heat. Teflon Coated if i recall correctly.

This is what its going into, nothing to serious. Looks better in the photo then it does i think lol.

if you are building the motor in your sister's corner...make sure your safe when you eventually take the motor out of the room.

well i had a brain fart about 20 min ago and heres my situation lol.

I think i may have repackaged the rings in the wrong baggies when i was finding out what the gaps where straight out of the box.

1 set of rings are silver in color and thinner then the 2nd set. (currently in bag labeled 1st)

2nd set of rings are thicker and dark Grey in color. (currently in back labeled 2nd)

I don't know which ones are the top rings anymore

any help will be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advanced,

Mondo

Also aside from problem im gapping my rings at the following:

Upper ring gap.... .006" x My bore in Inches = .018"

Second ring gap.... .0065" x My bore in Inches = .019" according to formula but i may go .020 just cause i rounded down on this measurement and going bigger isnt bad they say. Thats still in the air though.

Im gapping tonight and installing pistons on Sat!

Woot!

Dark rings in bag #2, Light in #1. Crinkley rings in bag labeled OIL, lol.
