Default LONG road to PINKS!!!

This is a thread that is long over due! In November of 2007 The television show PINKS ALL OUT came to Tucson's SIR drag strip. A project three years in the making was the perfect opportunity to make its debut. I am Robert Diaz owner and operator of Hush22 Performance in Sierra Vista AZ. Almost five years ago while working with Scott Byars of Collective Racing in Tucson AZ I had made a discovery. As one of the first few shops to receive Hasports new EF Cable to Hydro b- series conversions kits, I happened to notice something. The actuator that bolts on the transmission has the same bolt pattern as the hydro d- series. The next day I bought a crx and began my very own swap kit for the d-series hyrdo trans into an EF. Up to that time I had been following as many other tuners on the quest for d-series power potential. EF single cam trannys are a weak point and would break under the amount of torque I planned on running. The hydro d-series are stronger and would hold up to the abuse. Also finding a cable SI trans in good condition for proper gearing these days is getting much more difficult. Hydro 92-00 ex/si transmissions are everywhere and extremely cheap in comparison to the b.

The swap mounts were a success! Due to some of my own personal issues the project came to a Holt. Fast forward to 2007 Hasport and Innovative have made their own kits but didn't stop me on my own personal vendetta with myself. I needed to know that my research and development would pay off.

Some very close friends of mine jumped in and wanted to help me get the project to the track and possibly win PINKS!!

Special thanks goes out to my sponsors and friends that help along the way.

Hmotorsonline, Turboelements, Collective Racing/Autoworks, David Larson, Mike Greene, Joe Mosley, Freddy Dillingham

The following pictures are of the build one month before the scheduled tract event for PINKS ALL OUT

Two Years later I'm going for it again! In September 2009 PINKS ALL OUT will be at Bakersfield.

The car 1990 Honda CRX HF single owner, took me three years to find one this clean...haha pictures due it no justice. Thanks goes to Richard Murray and his dad

The engine provided by Turboelements. Stock D16Z6, arp head studs. Edlebrock Intake manifold, AEM FR and FPR provided by Huck it Gear

Side by side Stock cable trans and Hydro ZC Donated by Hmotorsonline

My rear "T" mount All mount Fabrication by Rico at RPM Fab PHX AZ

Rear mount bushing fab

Transmission Mount Fab

The swap. haha looks like I'm slave driving I'm behind the cam

Rear mount install

ETD EF Traction bar. With all due respect I haven't been too pleased with this design. Where they designed the bar to be mounted has been proven by my self to be an inevitable disaster. With some modification the bar has been able to maintain its mounting position for over 65 track passes

D16ZC install. If you look closely you'll actually see the very same Hasport part that I had discovered would work which gave me the Hydro D-series idea. Since this photo I have my own design and will be soon into production.

YAY!! A gift from a very close associate Steve from Hmotorsonline EF9 front and rear dics

After the disc install and time had been running real close to deadline I needed to get the car aligned. The engine was running stock, on an obd1 p28using the hydro conversion ZC transmission and intermediate shaft. DA axles. Upon test driving something no one could have expected happened. The steel "L" bracket pulled out of the block, cracking the mounting holes.

The the accident was just two days before PINKS my heart sank so sad!! NO NO I cant let it get me down, I can let my sponsors down. Lets get to work.

While Everyone one is working hard back home I took a drive up to SIR for the PINKS test and tune day. I wanted to see my competition as well. As I was there I ran into a familiar face, Scott Byars of Collective Racing/Autoworx

Back at home. Its not looking good. With just 10 hours left, we call it. It was a long hard road. The accident really cost us our time I felt awful but no need to rush now. Lets go check out the show!

We let some time pass before getting back to the CRX. There was really no rush to get it done. The next scheduled event was Import Face Off. We would make that for sure. Here is some pics as we were finishing the car.

The car had gotten finished about two weeks before IFO. The car was absolutely amazing!!! It was everything I could have ever hoped for as far as performance!!! I cant believe it works my mounts, my idea, its here finally!!! Transmission works perfectly! Axles are holding up No LSD and no torque steer!!! Mounted on top of the Turboelements manifold is a GT3076 on 8psi this car is stupid fast, after 5000rpm haha.
These pictures are from the test and tune the week before IFO! My very first pass was a 12.7 with a 2.1 60ft. I still needed to learn how to drive the thing. That next week I enter IFO 14 and faster class. It was a 16 car field. I WON!!!!!! 12.50s consistently all day long!!!
Whats crazier about that is PINKS ALL OUT isnt about the fastest cars just what would make for good TV. PINKS picked a 12.50 class DAMN. 10k would have been nice.To those who know me, this is my life. This is what I do for a living. Every cent I have gets put back into my business. This CRX is the only car I own. Is what I take my daughter to school in. I cant sometimes afford to eat. I have had some good people in my life to help me get to where I am. It can only get better from here. Thank you to every one along the way. This thread was dedicated to alot of different people but more so you can get to know me.

Taking a cruise to Santa Barbra to go see my friend Steve at HMO. I had been driving the car for about a month up to this time with no problems. I felt that it was time to go show my boy what Ive been up to. On our way there I ran into a $500.50 mistake. $500.00 for the tow from El Centro to San Diego and .50cents for the rubber hose that burst supplied by Walboro leading from the fuel pump to the hard line inside the tank

In June of 2008 Honda-Tech members decided to have an EF meet in Los Angles Ca. I needed to get my car out there. I needed to show case my skills. The car was supposed to be completely repainted but as everything it seems things get out of my control. The car ended up getting torn apart and put back together in 48 hrs. The last 27 hrs I spent putting it back together. On the 27 hour I turned the car on, took a shower while it wormed up. I then drove the hardest 10 hours of my life to Cali. The car ran flawlessly unlike me having not slept in 37 hrs. The turn out was amazing countless Ef and most of them looking beautiful. Of course I'm sad cause mines not painted but it didn't stop people from checking it out. I got mad props for making the drive and the Cali heads got to live vicariously through me their turbo dream, hence, the heavy emissions there. It was a hot day I thought we were in Phx hot. Being from AZ I brought a pop up tent. That was the best thing I could have been done. Rywire parked his bad *** CRX right next to mine. It was hot and there was no shade except what I brought!!! Haha it was awesome everybody had no choice but to look at my ride as they hid from the sun!

Soon after my trip to California I attended an After Nine Event at SpeedWorld. Now just to give an idea on how dedicated I am. I drive fours hours each time I go there. In my daily driver risking anything to axles breakage to a blown engine. Loaded in the back of my crx is usually My slicks, rear Vxs jack, jack stands, tools and anything else I may need for the drive and stay. This race was soon after I realized that my valve adjustment was set wrong and I picked up a ton of power. I didnt realized how bad it was until I hit the track. I couldnt get the 22's Ive been using to hook at all best 60ft was 2.3. Very upsetting but it could have been worse. While we were there I met some some tuners of a 10 sec Staurn. I have a run with them in one of the videos.

July fourth 2008 the motor that brought me so much joy finally let go. It was my fault empty pockets lead to only being able to afford the OH SO AWESOME Super Tech walmart oil. Along witht the change I was about a quart low. I ended up spinning a rod bearing. The car sat more another four months. It seemed that Z6's were getting hard to find. It seemed I had become a victom of my own success. Perhaps people were jumping on the single cam turbo band wagon. FINALLY I was able to find one the day before IFO at Speed world on OCT 5 2008. For those that followed my F20B CRX thread. I worked on that car for 130 hours over the course of a week. I finished the F20B at midnight on the 5th. The only problem with finding this motor was that I needed to be pull it out of its home first. The boys came through again and helped me get it done and by 5am I was running again. Jumped into the shower and started the four drive to Speed World for IFO. Its been four months and this car feels faster than it ever has but its been awhile so maybe its just me. We are all in a hurry which gave me an excuse to hual ***. I came to a traffic light about 10miles outside of Sierra Vista. A bmw motorcycle pipes the hell outta me. He wants a pieace bad. Through his helmet I can sense him taunting me to race him as if he was Biff Calling me chicken in Back to the future. haha! I let him have it. Blow his doors off if he had doors to blow, and blowing my motor. I coasted into a circle k and parked it. Didnt look under the hood at all. Jumped into the truck that was towing the other CRX to Speed World. What waste but Ill check it out when we get home.

On my return back from IFO. I pulled the engine again to find out I through the number four rod. I forgot to put on my waste gate vac line. bumber. So I happen to have A daul cam zc not so pleased to use it I had no choice. That lasted a about a day before it spunn and rod bearing. I went through another three motors for various reasons.

please bare with me as the photos are still loading on to photobucket haha

These are the most resent pictures of what is happening. The CRX has been sitting waiting for its make over for the past five months. The car had to be Towed (thanks to my very special homie Danny Farkas, this guys is always around when I need help) to another one of my friends shop for paint. Wade Made Customs of Tucson AZ. There he mostly specializes in "Rat Rods" and Motorcycles. He is taking this one on to help me out. I posted a few pictures of his customers vehicles.

Again as usual. Something went wrong. Mike Wades Booth had issues. The body work has been complete and the CRX is coming back to SV. Another close assoicate to Wade and I is Jeremy Mead Of JM Custom pain and Air Brushing of Hereford AZ. He helped Wade out with the booth, supplies, and prep.

The paint. Wade says he has a hard time wanting to paint an OEM color. He convinces me to go custom. I do. Milano red, fire red flake, and red pearl. It came out HOT!!!! This was painted just this morning! With little time left til PINKS, the jams will have to wait. I am, however, having him paint a few parts while he has the colors out and ready including my IM, Compressor housing, D17 valve cover, and FR.

In my last desperate days of finishing the project I found some time to post more progress photos. This part of the project is courtesy of Half World Industry Clothing. Half World has partnered up with me sponsored the engine build. Look for this brand name at retail stores near you. Half World Industry Clothing will be also sponsoring Hush22 Performance team t-shirts seen at the Pinks All Out event at Bakersfield September 12 and 13. For those who have tried ordering your set of FJ rods I'm sorry. I got the last set. FJ Distributing has moved to Texas from PR. Thank you to them as they understood my urgency and were still able to process my order in the middle of their move Bravo!! I was able to get a hold of them in Texas the next day they flew back to PR to continue their moved and sent the very last set of 75.5mm Vitaras and FJ rods out to me! The blocks number three and four cylinders needed more chamfering. Of course this was found out after breaking two ring sets which put the build back a week while I had to wait for new rings. After the the block was fixed, it assembled well. Thank you again Danny for helping me get it done. I built it on the loose end of the spectrum because of the fact I wont have time to break it in. As it is I'm still waiting on my head to arrive from the machine shop. It should be here tonight. Ugh, it gonna be a long one. I have some shots of another sponsor aka my friend Chris Stephens whom owns CMS Auto Glass here in Sierra Vista Az. He hooked me up with a brand new Pilkington BTN. Previous to my ventures of ontuperuership I worked for Safelite AutoGlass as a Mobile Pro for ten years where I met and trained Chris. Pilkington or Liby Ownes Ford (LOF) is that of OEM replacement glass. Finding A BTN is hard. BT standing for Blue tint and N standing for no shaded tint across the top. Just and FYI for those who appreciate random knowledge

This picture was taken the last two days before Pinks All out. It seems to never fail me haha, always latst minute. I sent my head out for cleaning then get a call the my valve guides were bad ugh. I got them replaced and the day I got my head back I went to work. Build and installed the engine in 30 hours straight. Started the car and Now I had a Charging issue. Son of a gun!!! Some how my alternator took a dump just sitting on the shelf for five months. By this time Im really pushing it. Its 4am and 10 hours drive to Bakersfield. I tell myself I can make it. The ****ing battery wont charge either! I couldnt got even this far with the help from Mike Cabrera who also stayed up for over 24 hours. Never had this problem before with an Odyssey. Problem after problem I call it, I'm tired, I cant think, I quit. There has to be some reason I'm not supposed to race but I do go the show any way.

This next part is A redesign of an already awesome idea. Fabricated By Concept Fabrications of Sierra Vista Az. This Hush22 Performance aka H2P Clutch Master Pedal Assembly Adapter Bracket features multi angle reinforcements and bolt locations providing a solid mount. This part also retains all factory pedal sensors and switches such Neutral Safety and Brake light switches. No readjustments or tightening, No modification to under dash Body framing. No welding required. 100% BOLT ON!!! This part is designed for the use with 88-91 Honda Civics/CRX. 90-93 Acura Integra available also. THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCTION MODEL

These next photos are of a Patent Pending performance modifying part and are considered Proof of Conception. These photos are admissible in the Court of Law. This part you are about to see is the Hush22 Performance aka H2P Remote Slave Cylinder kit by Concept Fabrications of Sierra Vista AZ. This actuator allows for more clearance in front of the engine for the Do It Yourselfer. Those whom are unable to perform any fabrication on their own in terms of radiator fan, Turbo compressor, turbo down pipe, will find this part an easy solution. This part relocates the slave up out of the way of the slaves original location. Hush22 Performance aka H2P Remote Slave Cylinder Kit can be used with any Hydrolic D or B series Transmission. Soon to come is and F and H series transmission Remote Slave Cylinder Kit. This picture was taken at assembly and no pressure was applied hence the odd angle of the slaves push rod. This part you see here is the third revision and first road test. As of now the Slave Cylinder Kit performs that of stock and has been tested on (editing in progress???lbs) pressure plates. With the use of Hush22 Performance aka H2P Clutch Master Pedal Assembly Adapter Bracket by Concept Fabrications of Sierra Vista this will be used with constant direct pressure with no readjustments or tightening of the bracket. The bracket fits with out any modification of the under dash framing. H2P Remote Slave Cylinder Kit is 100% bolt-on no welding or modification needed THIS PART IS NOT THE PRODUCTION MODEL!

With tickets and Hotel already paid for and Some help from the love of my life, I go to the show to see what Ill miss again. Its about 3pm when I get there from Az. They just picked the top 32 so I didn't miss much. Pinks does work off ETs so it was hard to tell what class they picked. Mind you they don't post times on the light board at all so, Cynthia my daughters mother used her stop watch. If I was going to make it out there which was every intention of mine, I anticipated running in the high 11's I didnt change my boost level at all but elevation would have made the difference. Rumor has it that Famoso is near sea level where in Phx its over 1100ft. With margin for error we guesstimated that they picked an 11.50 higher bracket haha. There wasn't one import in the field and seemed very standard as to what Pinks picks. Im more then sure I would have made it on or at least an interview. In the field they picked there was a bad *** 29 something forgive me as to domestics are about as foreign as they come to me. The 29 ended winning the event but not before my daughter was already way in love with it!

Alright! Got an update. Here in Sierra Vista at a local Car Show called Cars in the Park, there was on site chassis dyno. I wasn't able to show my car but was able to get on the dyno. This the very first dyno I have ever had. Unfortunately I wasn't ever able to get o dyno on the stock set up. Sierra Vista is over 5000ft so my horse power numbers were excepted to be lower, from the actual number the engine makes where I race. Tucson's SIR track is at 3800 ft and in Phoenix's FIR is a 1100ft. Between both cities is common to get an increase of up 4 tenths of second from elevation alone. Thanks to Chris Lynn for get the video footage and youtube. This is a link to my dyno here in Sierra Vista. 8psi 257whp 259flbs. What really has impressed me was the torque numbers.
