Default The Last Samurai.. Build Thread.

After many years in the Honda world and many cars later, some gnarly, some shitbox's, I think this will be my Last Honda I build for quite some time.

I really would like to build another AE86 or S13.

So, this is dubbed the Last Samurai, mainly because, its the last one I am going to work with.

Story behind it:

It originally started out as a friends car. Primered '94 DX Hatch. Had a B16 swap with some bolt ons.

Friend bought a RHD Teg and sold this to another mutual friend. Said mutual friend paid a certain shop in town to paint it and "build" it. Paint job is immensely shitty, dont even get me started.

Long story short, they dicked over my second friend who owned it and I ended up with it for $2k.

Sold the turbo kit and installed it for $1300.

Sold the bottom end for $600 along with the seats and some other stuff. Ended up breaking even on the car.

Bought a CRV that came with a spare B20z longblock. Tossed it in so far. Started cleaning up the wiring as the "shop" paid to build it completely fucked the wiring.

Eventually it will be a 84mm ITR Piston'ed B20 w/ a slightly built B16 head running Pro 2 Cams.

Aiming for 225whp.

Plans:

I would like it to look and perform like a race car. Not necessarily a full blown car, but time attack or circuit.

With that being said, the parts list has started to accumulate.

Parts include:

Motor:

B20z
Hasport Race Mounts
Comp Clutch Stage 3 4 puck Unsprung
ITR Linkage
Fluidyne Radiator
DC Sport Header (Waiting for an SMSP)

Interior

Sparco Evo 2 Seat
PLM Adjustable Low Max Rail
NRG QR
NRG Wheel
Momo Hub
Late Model Del Sol Seat

Interior behind seats is going to be gutted.

Suspension

HKS Hipermax Pro Coilovers
Blox LCA's (Will be changed, on the car when I got it.)
ASR Subframe Brace (Black)
USDM ITR Rear Sway Bar
Blox Spherical Endlinks (Thanks TCS. )
94-01 Integra Spindles
94-01 Integra Calipers
Brand New '91 EF Sedan EX Master Cylinder
Prostop Slotted Rotors (Fr)
Bendix Ceramic Pads (Fr)
EBC Slotted Rotors (Rr)
EBC Red Stuff Pads (Rr)
ARP Extended Studs (Fr)
96-98 TL Studs (Rr)
Brand New Tie Rods (Both Inner and Outer)
Brand New Lower Ball Joints
Brand New Wheel Bearings
Brand New Rear Calipers
'96 Integra RS Front Sway Bar
94-01 Integra Front Tie Bar
Energy Suspension Front D Bushings and Brackets
Energy Suspension Rear D Bushings and Brackets
Beak Polished Bar
S2 Camber Kit

Wheels:

15x7 Rota Slips w/ 195/50/15

I have some pictures of a good deal of it. Some is still arriving or waiting to be shipped.

Theme of the car will be Black car, polished accents and wouldnt be mine without some Teal.

Going to undercoat all the corners and possibly the undercarriage if time permits.

Progress is slow as I am a work at home dad with a 6 month old. So be patient.

I think its the rail and its sitting on my uneven driveway.

Yeah, I would definitely like to build another S13. I would have bought one instead of this, just couldnt find a reasonable price.

Alittle late on the update.

Sunday I went over to Alan's house to use his press. We got the wheel bearings in place along with the ARP's and LBJ's.

Big thanks to him for that. Saved me $100+ on that.

Also picked up from him a B16 intake manifold for that midrange!

Got them put on last night and pictures of today.

Just ordered my Slotted Rotors and CT3 Brake Pads. Everything is in/on its way except for D Bushings for the Sways. Need to order those.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/92494578@N05/9349960672/http://www.flickr.com/photos/92494578@N05/9349960672/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/92494578@N05/, on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/92494578@N05/9349960384/http://www.flickr.com/photos/92494578@N05/9349960384/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/92494578@N05/, on Flickr

Also managed to start work on the calipers themselves. That was a daunting task.

Went to clean them up with Mag Wheel cleaner. Got them all cleaned, however the PO painted them red......

After the read was stripped off came yellow........

Then came bronze.

Seriously contemplated just ordering my ITR calipers and saying **** it, but I stuck it out. About an 1hr and a half of scrubbing with brush on stripper, they came to the point I could repaint them BLACK.

They are currently "curing" so no pics at the moment of them finished. Here is a in process pic I snapped on the cell. When I was finished they were 99.9% back to cast color.

How do you intend on keeping the brakes that shiny cast color? I'm honestly debating painting my brakes black simply because they will rust otherwise and looks like junk. Red stock calipers is fairly ricey. Looks like its off to a good start!

They are actually painted gloss black now.

If I were to try and keep them cast colored, I would use a high temp clear coat.

^~i can do that when I get alittle time.

So a small update.

My pads arrived. Then I went on a mini weekend vacation to come home to my rotors.

Had some time on Monday, so I slapped em on.

Pads were CT3. Heard great reviews and they are GG rated as well. Not to mention the pretty stellar deal on them. ($28 shipped. Amazon has them for $78).

Rotors are ABT Slotted. Opt'ed not to go with the drilled as I do not wish to have mine crack nor like the look/performance as opposed to slotted with a nice pad.

Need to order some stainless steel lines and find a rear disc setup now.

While I was on vacation I also scooped up a 22mm ITR Rear swaybar w/ a Beaks reinforcement kit.

Then traded out a NX cluster to a friend for a pair of jumper harnesses and a ITR front strut bar.

I will link you on the pads bud. I got them off ebay. From the reviews, you cant beat them for the price. Was debating some Cobalts, but the car will rarely see the abuse that those pads want.

I was just going to use the professional grade 3m rubberized. With the proper prep and amount of coats, you cant beat it. POR 15 is very nice, I just dont see the need for it on a car thats rust free and from/resides in the south.

*Updates*

Got the brakes bled last night around midnight thanks to my Wife.

Preloaded all the suspension and set her back on the ground.

Had to fix ALOT of the wires on the harness. Ended up making new pigtails for the Dizzy (cut off the OBD2 Pics and used brand new OBD1 pins and connectors w/ wire seals).

Had to wire in the following:

Fan Switch
Temp Probe (Side of the head)
Reverse Lights
Distributor 8 pin and 2 pin connectors
O2 Sensor

Picked up the Distirbutor from TCS on Saturday. Big thanks to those guys. Also ordered my ASR through them. Should be on my door step on the 7th.

Just waiting on my PLM Seat rail for my Sparco.

Going to finish the battery relocation this evening along with putting in the Del Sol passenger seat.

Pics in a little bit.

Well, The ASR arrived on Wednesday. Big thanks to Jerry/Mike/Chris at TCS.

Got that and the ITR bar installed last night. Subframe was alittle tweaked so it was kinda a bitch. Nothing alittle time and a torch couldnt fix.

Got the day off today from hanging with my daughter (7mo's) to work on the car.

Put a basemap on the ecu to drive it.

Tossed on an Alternator Belt
Filled Fluids

And little small **** to finish up.

Finally after months, she got a bath.

Aside from that, just a few more parts to order.

Need to order the following:

Samco Intake Pipe
BPI Flow Stack
K&N Filter
Cometic B20V HG
84mm ITR Pistons

Then I should be happy with it.

Well, its been alittle while since I have updated this. Been super busy chipping ecu's and making harnesses along with my daughter growing up and getting married in July.

Anyways, some ******* stole a pair of my Jmags that were on the rear while I was doing my rear disc.

Also, got a stellar deal on the HKS Hipermax Pro Coilovers from Battle Monkey. They were super mint. Appreciate it man.

Threw them on, finished up my rear disc.

Got a stupid deal on EBC Slotted rotors and EBC pads ($80). Replaced all the rear calipers and brackets too.

Got everything mounted up and put back together.

Also, traded straight up for a Kevlar Duckbill. My carbon one came with the car so... FREEBIE!

Anyways, thats about it for now. Got the PLM seat rails put on and Sparco Mounted.

For the record, I wouldnt buy another seat rail from PLM if my life depended on it. Fitment was pure ****.

Switched directions unfortunately.

Got tired of sinking money in the Hatch and never driving it. Mainly because didnt feel safe enough for my 11mo daughter to be in. (People in my city are extremely aggressive and shitty drivers.)

So, I went back to an EG Sedan. Sold off the hatch and picked up a F2B Sedan.

Just finished 5 lug as well.

Here is some progress pictures:

Day 1

Today:

Difference:

HKS Hiper Pro Coilovers
ASR Brace
36mm 5 Lug
Gunmetal ITR Wheels
RSX Type S Rear Brakes 10.2"
ITR Front Setup 11.2"
15/16" Master Cylinder
F20B Long Block
GSR Trans
QSD Conversion
Drop Engineering Mounts
Skunk2 Camber Kit

Had a chance to pick up a couple of cans of SEM Interior Paint/Dye.

Took all the upper panels out and got them set up for black.

Also picked up a Recaro Lemans SRD Seat aka Confetti.

Not much else new since I have an ongoing sinus infection. Waiting on new carpet and rear lca's.

^hey hey. actually going to be using your writeup(s) shortly for heated seats and rear edm foglight (real one, not poormans.).

Anyways, havent really updated this thread in a little bit.

Got some EK Sedan sideskirts for it.

NRG QR and Short Hub are on order. Waiting on my wheel to come from Japan.

Ceelx's rear edm fog light landed. Just waiting on switch.

Still trying to hunt down some mid offset 15/16" 5 lug wheels. Not having a huge amount of luck with finding the perfect set.

Pictars!

New EK Sedan Skirts. NO CUTTING REQUIRED. 2 front and 2 rear holes mounted perfect, Only modification needed was the last rear underpin needed to have a hole drilled 1" further towards the center of the car.

Also, instead of painting, used Turtle Wax's Trim Restore. Dont like the feel of painted ****. Doesnt look legit.
