Would aftermarket cams affect emissions

Would aftermarket cams affect emissions
I live in washington and I wanted to ask if anyone had any trouble with emissions. Does anyone have any suggestions of what cams will be emission safe. Thanks

Re: Would aftermarket cams affect emissions (ultrablackhatch)
most cam companies put a warning on there box stating there for off road use only and will not pass emission or are not emission friendly and its only about half true, if your car is obd2 what cam you have wont matter because they dont run it they simply plug into it, if it is an obd1 and you have upgraded cams as long as they dont cross over into your vtec which they wont unless you have it set low it will pass but if you have bigger injectors then stock youll have to put the stock ones back in reset the ecu drive around for about 50 miles and you can pass that way as well. hope that helps

Re: Would aftermarket cams affect emissions (EM1_00MRBuilt)
it definitely will --
but what are current laws in washington? actually, how is your smog handled? is it a plain idle tailpipe, or on the rollers like CA?
if you have a stage 1 cam or similar with near stock idle characteristics, you shouldn't have a problem. i've even heard of built (stg2) setups that were tuned to pass the sniffer out here in cali. personally, i'd just swap the cam(s) out for a day or two for the smog -- rather than possibly waste $75...
good luck

Get it tuned and it should be ok. I'm in Chicago but I'm running Blox B's tuned w/Hondata and I just fast passed emissions.

washington emission arent that bad.
if the car is obd1 they just hook up into the exhaust pipe and obd2 by the connector.
they never open your hood to check your engine.
I have blox type b cams but im lucky because i dont have to do emission this year.
