Who makes the best D series builds
Hi Guys,
Have a 2002 Honda City which has a D15B VTEC I4 engine belonging to a customer here in Mumbai, India
Whats the best that can be done to this engine without changing/swapping the engine and keeping it NA and who would be the right person to carry out the job. Car has to be a daily driver running on 91 Octane pump gas.
Was thinking on the lines of the following stuff :
1> Oversize pistons & sleeving block - Whats the max i can go
2> Slightly higher compression pistons & forged rods - How high can i go
3> Full CNC port head job and upgraded valve train
4> ITB's or standard Intake manifold with bigger TB
5> Cam upgrade
6> ECU upgrade
7> Gear ratio upgrade
8> LSD
Anything that I have left out that should be done. I dont mind purchasing and getting the entire engine built in the US if its available there.
Looking forward to your suggestions.

All motor wise? Save your money. Seriously. Put 5k into that motor and I bet you wont break 150whp 90tq. Unless you throw some juice in it which still wont be all that impressive for the money spent.
Sorry I'm a realist

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
Hi 93Eg - Thank you very much for your advice. Customer will be on top of the world if he can get 150whp.
Stock B16A with I/H dynoes at approx 135whp on the land and sea dyno that we have in our city(only dyno available). Turbocharged cars with stock internals @7psi are dynoing at 145whp only. All builds are local with stock cams.
He does not mind spending 5-6000 USD to get 150whp or higher + shipping + duties.
Who makes cams for the D series.
Hope you get what am trying to say.

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
Is he willing to put nitrous on it? That was the sole intention of my post.
Speedfactory knows a thing or two about D-series. They build a 1.6vtec that dyno'd around 170 if I remember correctly. 13:1 compression was the base number. I'll see if I can find the build thread.
Not trying to be an ***, just don't want someone to be disappointed. That is ALOT of money for the power.

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
Hi,
No nitrous buddy as it is a daily driver. Also he would then not be able to participate in the NA category in the drag races.
Turbo is a option he is considering but then i guess this is the wrong section for that.

Sup foreign dude. You're gonna find alot of people here who suggest simply turbo the engine.
I'm gonna provide you with another resource, a forum dedicated to n.a. d-series Hondas. A person there has a d16z6 at 165hp, so your goals dont seem all that unreasonable.

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
148whp on a dynojet is quite easy..
very simple build is wats needed.. no need for cnc stuff etc
no need for 5k numbers
but then now ud atract parts slingers... so thats either good or bad LOL

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
just to add :
you'd need custom pistons from arias/wiseco/cp or JE
since the d15b has 27.4mm compression height
being an 84.5mm stroke *like all d15's but 137mm rod like a d16
75.5mm should do the job
due to small displacement ud need max dome which is around 7.2cc
on that bore size (8cc is possible with 81mm bseries)
skunk2 proseries intake manifold
or better Edelbrock performerX (the original bfor the bseries came out)
cam would be / needs a lil bigger than the crower stage3
problem wiht sohc vtec' is.. the exhaust.. its always a compromise to run with the intake primaries and the intake's vtec lobe.
for max effort/power engines.. the exhaust lobe and cam itself should be aproached differently..
so 150whp on a 1500cc is def possible.. and not extreme..
my old daily was a stock block d15 non vtec, my porting/and tweaks
po8 intake (d16z6 intake) stock a6 cam and non vtec d16a6 head
already made 129-133whp with a barely 10.7:1 comp...
jooo can dooo it!

Re: Who makes the best D series builds
my D16 is at 144 wheel with the engine being tuned the 1st time it started,
im gonna get it re tuned when i get a few oil changes on it, everything beds in and whatnot i should see 150 plus with no problems
im still running stock injectors and stock flywheel, pm7 pistons/bisi level 2 cam-springs, s300, ported head, ferret valves, apr bolts, itb's, ebay header
the biggest thing i want to change out is the header and the flywheel but in time those parts will get done

Hi Guys thanks for all the inputs. Dumb question is it possible to make the existing block a D16 by changing internals.
We dont get the D16 here in India and also if I change the motor then the category changes. He goes into something we have here called indian car foreign engine.
We are allowed to do anything using factory block and head. Internals are free.
