Default so i spun a bearing on friday.....

Im a bit bothered and very pissed about the whole situation but o well. ive been putting this motor together on the side hoping i could make it till i get a head and manifold done(btw bears-ek-kmsu is impossible to get a hold of) ill have pics up tomorrow i only have a few for now.

Now im a bit soured and discouraged about continuing this build. i think im gonna use what i got now, tune it , dyno it and see what kind of power it puts out. im pretty pissed about having to spend money to drop this motor in right away because this is my only car.

heres a list of what i got for now. i should have the motor in tomorrow night, but due to my hectic work schedule i probalby wont dyno for a month.

BLOCK:
benson sleeved b18c 85mm block w/ stock gsr girdle oil pan + pickup
ycp 85mm itr pistons(very very similar to rs machine b20 pistons)
eagle rods w/ upgraded arp rod bolts
89mm ls crank polished
acl duraglide (not race) main, rod, and thrust bearings
cometic 85mm head gasket(kinda thick @.40)
arp head studs

HEAD:
p72 gsr head gasket matched by hookups import tek over ten years ago
skunk2 flat face std size valves
skunk2 valve springs
skunk2 retainters
skunk2 pro cam gears
stock gsr cams(sold pro1's with intent to buy some ALLM0T0R cams)
bisimoto intake manifold gasket
skunk2 pro series manifold
skunk2 composite fuel rail
skunk2 pro 70mm tb
rc 440 injectors
OEM new honda timing belt for now

TRANNY
95 gsr with itr 4.7 final drive and itr lsd. rebuild in the near future with b16 1st,2nd,3rd gears coming too
OE itr clutch
ACT 8bl flywheel
honda reman axles
hasport motor mounts

BOLT-ONS
og iceman intake
hy-tec rep big tube header
apexi gt spec catback 2.5in

hondata s300 will be used for now
aem uego

15 in Lenso VPD's with matching 13in vpd's 22x8x13 mt et slicks
tein ss adj dampers with pillow mounts(top hats)
jim fab traction bar
skunk2 lca's

i know my cams suck but like i said my original plans were to have this motor assembled and tuned by labor day. not now. i think i have some skunk stage 2 cams laying around. if i find those ill be dropping in those as well. i have a day or two to look for them

the head has been in the family for a while. it was supposed to be a gasket match but it looks like a bit better job than that. the fastest the head went was 11.5 in a 2200lb eg hatch ten years ago. b20 84mm 13.5 compression on a vafc.after that we went with an alaniz head and picked up a few hp and mph. it should do its job for now.

after I dyno i think i can finally paint my god dam car. something always comes up everytime im gonna paint it and since its my daily i dont have two days down time consecutively very often. if u guys saw it in person youd laugh but i also have a fear of painting my cars because the last two projects ive had in the last fifteen years have all been totaled shortly after leaving the spray booth. my ac works my sunroof works i got power windows now and i really dont care to lose my hatch at this moment in time. although i do have full coverage and uninsured motorists.

MM sounds like a solid monster..

I have a perfect version ready for you, lemme know before the head is put together, i have spring install height and what not i need you to check.

You'll need pro series springs / retainers or Supertech springs and retainers to run my cams. Just giving you a heads up

I should have been more clearer but I spun a bearing in my daily driven motor . That gsr had to have had over 200k and I'd say about 75% of its life it was beat on. I'm happy with the life I got out of it I just can't believe it had to go now. Just bad timing.

As for a b20 block I have one too that's now for sale. I've always been partial to b18c blocks which is why I decided to use my sleeved block.as far as cost to fix a spun bearing a gsr and b20 is the same

It does tapper down smaller than 70mm idk but I have the race adapter for it, nd I've had my intake for almost ten years. Its more if a sentimental thing to me. I plan on getting an Itr aem but like everything else that plans gonna get scrapped or on put on hold for now. If I can get my timing and fuel decent enough to drive around for a while without having to drop 400 on the dyno I maybe able to pick up a few more parts

build update: i finished assembling the short block today. well the pistons and rods are in, crank and girdle are on and thats about it. took me a while to bend the oil squirters because i was being delicate with them. i read a few peeps had managed to break theirs while trying to bend them and i dont have any extra.

tomorrow (wednesday) i will slap on the extras like oil pump and pan and mount the head on. i work very early mornings so i probalby wont have the motor in and fired up till thursday night. ill keep u guys posted.

any thoughts, concerns, or comments?

Can you take a pic of how you positioned the squirters? Any idea of how much clearance you have between them and the crank counterweights?
I was trying to keep them on my current build, but there is no way they will work...
Good luck with the rebuild!

sorry it took so long to post pics. i went on vacation which had already been planned for a year which is why this whole motor taking a crap on me pissed me off. pyro these are the only pics i could grab with the squirters in. i kinda forgot to take some without the crank bolted in.

all i have left to fire up the motor is to r+i the old plugs from the old block. the big *** round ones. i had to hit up the truck to get a 14mm hex head. tomorrow night ill report back hopefully with the car running.

That's just how I had my oil squirters... EEK.. It was no problem on start up, but once you got to over 3000-4000rpms, there was a bit of vibration that caused the pistons to score. Cross your fingers and hope it was bent right. I opted to use a oil squirter block kit, and $12 could save an engine.

BTW. LOVE the choice in exhaust you got. apexi gt spec catback 2.5in

Shodan is correct. Delete the squirters can save an engine. I prefer my oil being directed to the bearings... not randomly sprayed towards the bottom of a piston "for cooling".

Do you really like the exhaust? I didn't pay retail for it otherwise I would have bought a thermal for that much. Anyways where can I find the block kit at? How could you tell you had vibration? This is my first time doing this so any help is greatly appreciated.

^^golden eagle

but how bad is the spun bearing?. i spun a bearing a few weeks ago took it to my machine shop i needed a new crank(ls $150) a new rod(eagle $100), and new bearing($35) and it didnt cost me ish for machine work.

alot of ppl cheap out and try to keep reuse the rod and resurface the crank and just buy new bearing but f that do it right bro. my setup darton sleeved lsv 81.55 but 10:1 comp but im boosting

Because I ran out of time. I work about eighty hours a week. I wasn't planning on this motor build till September. I planned on getting a 3 in ws canister with custom piping. Like I've mentioned a few Tim's a lot of my plans have been thrown off.

Build looks good man. Thanks for actually taking the pix! Looks like its gonna be a tight fit.(just like mine were).
It seems to clear the piston skirt just perfect, assuming you didnt notch the skirt or something...
I wish there was a way to accurately measure the squirter to crank counterweight clearance. Maybe with some clay or something. It baffles me how some people claim to run it without clearance problems and others they "touch".

Let us know how the exhaust works out. I was actually planning on doing the same thing. 3" mandrel bent to a modded WS exhaust. I was even contemplating on opening it up and reworking the baffles/packing...It may be slightly restrictive compared to other free flowing exhausts, but I bet the sound would be amazing.

Id look into an electric cut out, big displacement motors need to breath.

yea no piston mod what so ever. it took a few times to get both the clearance of the crank and the piston to work but it did. now im kinda paranoid about what "theshodan" said. i still havent fired up the motor. by the time my dam hex key comes in i should have the squirter block kit and magnetic drain plug.

as for the exhaust, apex sells a 3in ws canister so there is no modding needed. just the piping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_511wt_731

either way im gonna dyno open header. whenever that day is.

it wasnt that bad at all. i only heard the knock at start up or if i was idling with the ac on. i already sold the motor to my neighbor. he was wise enough to jump on the deal.

i agree . even small displacement motors need to breathe. i lost 2mph when i went from a thermal 3in to an og apex i n1 on my d16z6 swap in a cx hatch ten years ago. the top end lost was very noticeable. the exhaust situation is the last thing on my mind right now though.

Id look into an E cut out if switching exhaust's is a mission for you.

Well I got my hex key in, installed those big *** plugs. Soldered in my obd1 plugs to install my RC injectors. Still don't have my magnetic drain plug or oil squirted plug kit. Now I'm debating to fire her up now or wait for those parts to come in.

I will be adjusting my fuel and timing myself till I get it to the dyno. Any advice, tips or tricks

Do u guys think ill crack 200 without cams? I'd be content with that for now
