Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
u dont need to drive the car with the vac gauge hooked up. just start it and see what it reads. at idle it should be 20-23in/hg any thing less and u got a leak. unless u got aftermarket cams which im assuming u dont.

how bad does a vacuum leak have to be in order to alter the engines idle? thats my question. had a few in my time and the last one i had my idle seemed to fluctuate 100rpms or less. didnt think much of it. but i never bothered to get out the vac.gauge. what i did do was use carb cleaner to find them. it worked

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
Optimum is coming when the turbo is installed but in the meantime it needs to run before i can jump to the next step.
I will do that that should be no issue. I do have ITR cams that has been on the car way before the skunk2 manifold without any issues. I must say thought the vacuum does vary +/- 4in/hg on my turbo gsxr which is normal so i would expect to see slight variation on the gsr
the carb cleaner trick didn't do anything when i tested it even the first time with old gasket i reused. again i doubt its a leak and if it is im missing something...
I want to be clear on this there are only 3 vaccum line, fpr, pcv and evap that connect to the manifold and when the IAB is removed there are no vacuum lines left i need to cap. based on the skunk2 diagrams.
Vacuum test will be done tomorrow then off to the shop Sat. Running rich like this still makes me wonder if one of the sensors i haven't checked like IAT is gone south and it has not thrown a code. On motorcycles this sensor affects the fueling. Not sure on the honda ecus if its used to calculate fuel.
thanks again guys

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
jetspeedz I feel for you dude. I really hope you get the problem sorted. I am still struggling with my JDM GSR swap with Skunk2 Pro intake manifold. Still have TPS and Map sensor CEL's. I am running the OBD1 P72 ECU at the moment and the car runs crap. No vac leaks new TB and Intake manifold gaskets now. All plugs and sensors are ok. Tried different sensors too.
Like you I want to tune once I have my turbo on and just want to get this running so I can drive it around for a short while. Don't know what else to try

If you have a CEL make sure you check all the wiring to the sensor correct and test the sensors themselves. I have a p72 obd1 with a gsr in my ls and it throws no CEL.
Have you checked your plugs to see if its running rich or not?

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
Well I got the vacuum gauge on the manifold T'd into the pcv and back nipple for evap and they are both around 20in/hg which is in the normal range. However they dip down to 17-18 from time to time so its either related to a leak or timing. With the gauge hooked up I sprayed car cleaner all over the manifold looking to see if the gauge would stop fluctuating and it did not. Once the car is started its right at 21 and stays there till a few seconds then drops down to about 19-20 and dips down to 17-18 and back. Nothing obvious. I disconnected the IAT and it made little to no diff maybe it got a little smoother. I also took the IAC plug out and it didn't do much either. Next was the map and it died as I expected it to.
I took the pcv hose completly off and I can feel it blowing air out which is what I expected and with the crap its putting out I'm a little surprised the IAT is right below that b/c it was a little wet so maybe skunk2 should move that pcv to another location on their next design. None the less no change. Tom ill be going in detail all the fixes I've tried and maybe someone at the shop can come up with something local other then a tune.

I appreciate the offer, unfortunately the only people i know who can burn it are the guys who will be doing the Dyno Church and Bubba.
If there is any member watching this thread and has the capability to burn the chip and would be willing to do it please let me know ill gladly kick some money back to you for trying to solve this problem for myself and others who may have a similar problem if in fact the map ALL MOTOR is generously providing.
Thanks to all

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
how often does it drop down to 17-18. if its consistant with a valve opening u could have a prob like beny valve or guides or seal. if u search google for vaccum test readings it sould give u some answers

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
Its consistent so its right on the border of the problem range. You are correct a bent valve will cause this but I did a compression check and leakdown before putting the manifold on and all was well.
I'm at the shop right now and as soon as they get a chance to get on it ill be joining them in the garage. This guys is a wiz and has seen well over 400,000 honda/acuras so he knows his stuff and really the only private shop owner that's still around well over 20 years back when I used to do run rev hard kits vs drag. So well see what he comes up with

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
this happens ALL the time...i hope you know that, your not the only one.. spending 150 bucks for just a quick street tune so you can enjoy your car isn't alot.

Re: Skunk2 manifold installed no runs like crap
Sure could. That was next on my to do list but I was going to run a few bottle of injector cleaner in it to get rid of the carbon buildup then do the clearance check b/c if there is buildup and I'm sure there is it will throw the clearance off so adjusting it is worthless. I was also going to run the injector cleaner through the rail direct bypassing the tank with a special unit they have at the shop here 2 weeks ago before I put this manifold on

it has nothing to do with a tune... once again...
ill report back monday when i get a definite to the solution.

nope, problem was not related to that at all, although that would cause problems with vacuum at idle for others who many experience a similar problem.
