Re: (LSVT3K 91 C1V1C)
i work for a mobil shop, and i would never go back to any other oil, after talking to our rep. its the only oil i will ever use in my cars. its a great product, and mobil backs it up 100%

Re: (iluvboost)
Here's a little info on synthetic oil. AMSOIL is what I use 5w-30 in my truck and 0w-30 in my 97 accord....
Reduces Oil Consumption and Emissions
Evaporation (volatility) occurs when oil gets hot, causing high oil consumption and emissions. AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil has the lowest evaporation rate of the oils tested, making it the best at controlling evaporationrelated oil consumption and emissions (see chart below).
Excels in Extreme Temperatures
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil resists thermal (heat) breakdown better than conventional oils. It is heavily fortified with detergent and dispersant additives to prevent sludge deposits and keep engines clean. And unlike conventional oils, AMSOIL ASL contains no wax. It stays fluid down to -60°F for improved cold temperature oil flow, reduced bearing wear and easier starting (see chart below).
APPLICATIONS
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for use in gasoline engines and other applications requiring any of the listed worldwide specifications:
API SM/CF, SL, SJ ...
ILSAC GF-4- 3 ...
ACEA A5/B5
JASO VTW
GM 4718M, 6094M
Ford WSS M2C929-A
Daimler Chrysler MS-6395N
VW 503.00, 505.00

Re: POLL: What brand of oil do you use??? (FairlightRacing)
Sorry, But I don't think Mobil1 has the best filter. AMSOIL has just come out with their new line of oil filters good FOR 20,000 MILES when used with AMSOIL and the price is reasonable....
if interested let me know....

Well of course you will "never go back to any oil" after talking to your rep. But since your rep is apparently a scientist and not a businessman, lets hear a scientific explanation on why mobil 1 is superior to any other oil.
After reading on bobistheoilguy and on here, I now use Shell Rotella T 15w40

Mobil 1 0w-40 Euro Formula is hands down the finest oil available to the general public.
K&N Filters, which we're widely thought of as a GREAT flowing filter but only marginal at actually filtering has now been proven to be not only the best flowing but also best filtering. Reference bobistheoilguy.com. I had been preaching about these filters to deaf ears before people finally got on board as well.
Since it was made widely available I beleave I was one of the first or even possibly the first advocate of using the 0w-40 on Honda-Tech. There had been many arguments, I even recall some with EVOL. A little after I had started ranting about how great the 0w-40 was, the German Castrol was released and everyone jumped on the Green Train. I on the other hand keep posting experience upon experience and data facts amoung data facts on the benefits of the 0w-40 as opposed to the German Castrol. I'm glad to finally see some have dropped the German Castrol for the more consistant and all around better performing oil.
I used the 0w-40 formula the following vehicles for the following miles:
(all of the vehicles have perfect compression numbers, dont burn any oil and have literally spotless internals)
00 Honda Civic (Built B16B n/a): 79K miles
02 Chevy Silverado (5.3L n/a): 116K miles
04 VW Jetta GLS (2.0L n/a): 25K miles
05 Subaru WRX STI (2.5L Turbo): 26K miles
05 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 (5.6L n/a): 23K miles
The Chevy was actually stolen at one point and had been peeled out with so much that the BRAND NEW tires had literally ZERO tread left. We did a compression test on the engine after the truck was recovered and found that the compression was identical to its pre-stolen numbers. It had not burned any oil either.

The Mobil 1 0w-30 RACE oil is a great oil, as it does not have to conform with EPA standards and the such. The only other oil from them i would put in a 'race' engine would be their Euro blend, which meets stricter testing standards than the U.S. "blend".
For longevity, you cant go wrong with Amsoil, meaning if you have extended draining intervals in mind.
For all out racing, like i said, the Mobil 1 RACE blend would be my first choice, followed by the Motul 300v Series of oils.

Agreed! I especially recommend to those who have some oil consumption. I used nothing but M1 0w-40 before my rebuild, because the motor used to smoke in VTEC. Now that the motor is fresh I'll probably start off with some GC 0w-30.
I run extended OCIs in my Miata with GC to 8k miles no problem, while all Miata HLAs always cry for new oil after 3,000 when using just a regular dino.

I have about 400 miles on my freshly rebuild motor, and I have already done 3 oil changes with regular dino. After the last oil change, I looked through the oil, and cut the filter open, things looked excellent.
I'm thinking about pouring in some synthetic in a few days. Now, I'd like to clear up some more myths.
I hear "Don't run synthetic until at least 1,500 miles for break in." Well, it only takes 20 minutes to break a motor in.. so why do these people insist that break ins take up to 1,500 miles?
That's a lot of miles in not even a half hour
Anyway, I'm itching to get this dino oil out.. I've got a dyno appointment set up for Saturday, and I want to be running synthetic by then. I'll probably go with a thin 5w-30.. maybe M1 or RP.

maybe they mean the intial break in of a new car when there's moly in the oil and they want you to leave it in for awhile before changing it out? *shrugs*
honestly, i'm not too hot about royal purple. isn't the color just a dye in the oil? i haven't seen any tests on it..so to me it's just hype really. not that it's a bad oil, but i don't think it's so great, especially for the price.

Royal purple is all marketing, is a decent oil with a purple dye. there are mant better true synthetics out there for the price
