not tring to step on any toes but I would put some blame on the builder, the p2v clearances were to close, next time have your builder AND tuner know whats in your motor, lesson learned, now get that beast together, good luck

I put 100% blame on builder himself. You can't just jump out there building big motors with PRO cams without checking clearances. If you don't do P2V on every motor no matter cam size then your asking to blow up in the high RPM range. Even if you have it built at a shop and tuned elsewhere you need to know whats going on and let the tuner know the clearances so he knows what he can and can't do with cam gear adjustments. Good luck on rebuilding bro its a part of racing trust me I've learned from some of the same issues.

"The master honda tech and the tuner said.the valve guides were bad"

i also think the problem was piston to valve clearance. but since the head is off why dont you take the valves out and inspect the stems.

That looks like valve to piston contact to me.

you can see where the intake valves were "dusting" all the pistons. When there's any sort of contact (piston to valve, or valve to valve), it's just a matter of time before fatigue will cause a valve to break....

I think it was valve train....the other 2 pistons are fine..no valves hit those pistons...they are clean...

I think if it was piston to valve clearance probs..all 4 or at least the other pistons should have looked the same too...

the only way they would have looked the same is if they hade holes in them.

are you going with lighter pistons next time around?

Its very clear to see, the pistons have marks where the intake valves hit. The ones that hit the hardest probably broke first.

And the ones that hit first made the timing belt slip....

I'm reading this in sort of a depressed state.. I blew my dirtbike up today, and I was disapointed. New topend kit (piston and gaskets) is $60.. bore .010 to get rid of the scar.. $100 with hone..

I feel even worse to see how much this would cost you!

damn that sucks. for your next build pick one builder you trust instead of jumping from builder to builder that way he knows exactly what hes working on.

exactly! for me; whoever builds tunes it....otherwise all you get is a lot of finger pointing.
oh and you absolutely had piston to valve contact as i and many others have already stated...
good luck with the next one

I am not sure what pistons I am going to buy.. I think I am going to drop my old motor back in...I am going to get rid of my sleeved block..and buy a new b16 motor possibly from hmotorsonline.com... and go with a stock size piston..most likely JEs again....
